Maintenance
Cleaning the glass
From time to time it is necessary to clean off the
accumulated ash from the inside surface of the glass. The
amount of soot which may deposit on the glass might
depend upon the local amount of draught present or the
regulation of the top air control.
Some good advice! For general cleaning, use some kitchen
roll - soak it with hot water, and dip it into some ashes. Rub
the glass with the paper, and you will see that most of the
soot will disappear. Rinse the glass with clean water and
dry completely before burning the stove. If it is necessary
to clean the glass more thoroughly, we recommend a "Glass
cleaner".
Ash removal
Lift out the ash retainer. Use a shovel or similar and scrape
out the ash. Ashes should be placed in a metal container
with a tight fitting lid.
Leave a little ash in the bottom of the combustion chamber
as a protective insulating layer. By the way - ashes are an
excellent fertilizer.
Cleaning and soot removal
During use of the stove, soot may deposit on the inside
walls. Soot insulates a lot and will reduce the heat output
of the stove. To avoid a build up of creosote or condensed
water, it is important on a regular basis to increase the
heating to dry out the deposit.
At least once a year, perform a routine maintenance check.
A good time to do this is when you are cleaning the chimney
and connector.
Cleaning the flue pipe
With a rear flue outlet, lift off the top plate and brush the
pipe through the top.
With a top flue outlet, the baffle plate has to be taken
down by lifting it a little forward and to the side, and edging
it down. You may let the baffle plate rest on top of the
bottom plate until the cleaning is finished.
Control of the stove
Jøtul recommends that you personally control your stove
carefully after sweeping/cleaning. Check all visible surface
areas for cracks. Also check that all joints are sealed and
that the gaskets are in the correct position. Any gaskets
showing signs of wear or deformation must be replaced.
Thoroughly clean the gasket grooves, apply ceramic glue
(available from your local Jøtul dealer), and press the gasket
well into place. The joint will dry quickly.

External maintenance
Painted products may, after some years of use, change
colour. The surface should be brushed of loose particles
before new paint is applied.
Enamelled products have just to be wiped with a dry cloth.
Don't use soap and water. Eventual spots can be removed
with a cleaning liquids.
Woodlength, quantity and quality
Max. length of the wood logs are 40 cm. The wood logs
should be laid parallel to the back wall of the stove. Jøtul F 100
has with its efficiency a nominal capacity of 5,5 kW.
According to calculations the nominal heat output will
consume 2,2 kg quality-wood per hour.
Jøtuls definition of Quality-wood
Good quality-wood should be dried so that the water
content is approx. 20-25%. To achieve that, the wood should
be cut late winter, or early in the spring and dried in the
open air during the summer. In Autumn take the wood logs
inside for use during the coming winter.
By quality wood, we mean most well-known types of wood
such as: Beech, Birch and Oak.
The energy mass of 1 kg of wood varies very little. On the
other hand the net weight of the different kinds of wood
varies considerably. I. e. the weight of a certain amount of
birch will give less kWh than the same amount of beech.
The energy mass of 1 kg quality wood is about 3,8 kWh. 1 kg
of absolute dry wood produces about 5 kWh and wood of
60 % humidity gives only about 1,5 kWh.
Service
Replacing the baffle plate - inner
bottom - burn plates
• Remove the ash retainer.
• Lift the baffle plate (which rests on the burn plates) a
little forward and to the side and edge it down and out
through the door (If the product has rear flue outlet,
the top plate may be lifted up and the baffle plate can
be removed through the top.)
• Lift up the inner bottom plate and edge it out.
• Remove the burn plates.
For reinstallation follow the same procedure in reverse
order.
