6.2. Selecting the setpoint
The [kV] key operated switch is used to select an internal [UNLOCKED], [LOCKED] or an
external [REMOTE] setpoint; the internal setpoint can be locked [LOCKED]. The key can be
removed in any position.
1) In the [UNLOCKED] position, the setpoint comes from the [ ] / [ ] keys.
The corresponding [UNLOCKED] led will light up.
2) In the [LOCKED] position, the setpoint comes from the value preset in 1); now this value
is locked and cannot be changed. The corresponding [LOCKED] led will light up.
3) In the [REMOTE] position the setpoint comes from an external current / voltage
source via the Sub-D25 connector. The corresponding [REMOTE] led will light up.
6.3. Setting the output voltage
Attention:
Avoid unnecessarily high output voltages, otherwise spark-over can occur on the
-
charging bars or electrodes. This will impair the reliability and proper functioning of
the charging process.
6.3.1. With the [kV] key-operated switch [UNLOCKED]:
The output voltage is set using the [ ] / [ ] keys. Briefly pressing the [ ] key increases the
output voltage by 1 increment, briefly pressing the [ ] key decreases the output voltage by 1
increment. 1 increment is 1% of the maximum value, so with an ECM 30 this is 300 V and with
an ECM 60 this is 600 V. If the keys are pressed for longer, the output voltage will slowly
increase / decrease.
Setting procedure:
1. Put the [ON/OFF] switch in the [ON] position.
2. Use [ ] / [ ] keys to set the output voltage to about 25% of the maximum voltage.
3. Increase the output voltage in increments, while checking the bonding force of the material,
until the correct bonding force has been reached.
4. Set the output voltage to a value about 10% higher to accommodate process fluctuations.
6.3.2. With the [kV] key-operated switch set to [REMOTE]:
The setpoint value can be determined using an external current / voltage (see the appended
connector pinout & dipswitch settings.)
The supplied external current / voltage must be between:
0-5 VDC, 0-10 VDC, 0-20 mADC or 4-20 mADC depending on the dipswitch settings.
This voltage / current can be used to adjust the output voltage between 0 and 100% of the
maximum value.
