The level of the jump starting current de-
pends on the fall in battery voltage during
starting. The maximum jump starting current
flows when the battery voltage falls to 1.5V
per cell.
Perform jump starting for a maximum of 8
seconds.
8. Notes
Mains fuse for high jump starting current
If it is wished to make full use of the relatively
high jump starting current, make sure that the
mains socket is provided with appropriate
fuse protection.
Single-phase mains sockets are usually
fused with 16 A.
Owing to the high mains currents (up to 39
A), the fuse might be tripped earlier or later,
depending on delay characteristic, during the
jump starting operation.
If problems occur, ask the advice of your elec-
trical expert. He will adaptyourwiring to the high
mains currents and provide appropriate fusing.
Mains voltage supply via an adapter and a
three-phase socket is preferred.
Three-phase sockets are available in designs
with a current load capacity up to 63 A.
9. Description of the
opperating modes
9.1 Normal charging (NL)
- Set the combined switch to the total volta-
ge and the appropriate symbol.
- Do not wind up the time switch. Charging
takes place at low current until the unit is
switched off manually.
9.2 Boost charging (SL)
Adjust the combined switch as for normal
charging. Turn the switch back by one sym-
bol if the charging current is exceeded:
- 6 and 12 V range up to 70 A arithm.
- 24 V range up to 35 A arithm.
- Switch on the time switch (5). The boost
charging current now flows. The time
switch limits the boost charging time to a
maximum of 120 minutes.
This time is sufficient to recharge a battery so
that it is capable of starting again.
A longer boost charging time may be nec-
essary in the 24 V range or for batteries with
a capacity of more than 135 A per hour. In this
case, wind up the time switch once more.
- The unit automatically switches over to
normal charging after the time set on the
time switch (boost charging time) elapses.
Sulfated batteries produce large amounts of
gas at the start of boost charging. For this
reason, these may have to be charged nor-
mally for several hours before any boost
charging so that the sulfate layer is removed.
If necessary, batteries must be renewed.
The charger switches off automatically after
1/2 h at full load. In this case, the battery is
probably faulty.
10. Charging times
Charging time for exhausted battery = initial
charging current.
11. Certification
It is hereby certified that the charger is radioin-
terference-suppressed in accordance with
the regulations of the applicable German
post office official gazette ordinance.
