9. Installing the external sensor
a) Suitable location for the external sensor
• The external sensor must be set up outside.
• The external sensor must be placed within signal transmission range (100m in line of
sight). Walls and barriers reduce the transmission range. Check the signal reception
of the weather station before finally installing it.
• Ideally the external sensor should be installed on a mast or onto the roof of a house
where it is exposed on all sides to wind, rain and sunlight so that wind strength, wind
direction, precipitation and the UV index can be precisely measured.
• Do not place the external sensor near electromagnetic radiation sources such as a
pylon or electrical devices, since this could affect the lightning gage. Ensure that the
weather vane and wind turbine are not blocked, so that precise measurements can
be guaranteed.
• The external sensor should be attached to an open surface so that the sunlight can
reach the UV sensor of the device at any time during the day and not be blocked by
trees and walls.
• Do not place the device under trees or near to walls. The device must be exposed to
rain so that precise measurements of the precipitation can be guaranteed.
• Please ensure that rainwater cannot collect under the device. It must drain off freely.
b) Test the effective transmission range.
• Horizontally attach the external sensor to the point selected by you in the external
area (seep page 13) and at least 1 meter from the floor. (This is still not the final
installation; do not attach the external sensor to a post or onto a roof at this time, until
the actual transmission range has been tested).
• Open the battery compartment of the external sensor (20) and insert 4 AA batteries at
the correct polarity into the battery compartment (please note plus/+ and minus/-).
Close the battery compartment and tighten the screws.
• Place the weather station at a position selected by you inside the housing. Connect
the power supply to the rear of the device or insert 3 AA batteries at the correct
polarity into the battery compartment (9) (Please note plus/+ and Minus/- ).
• Press the clock/set button once to skip the initial adjustment for the weather forecast.
