Place the tip of the test probe on the area to be tested and the ground in contact with the metal
surface and press START.

Maintain the contact in position for the entire duration of the test.

After testing, remove any residual electrolyte solution from the test area, using a clean cloth or
wipe and SURFOX-N™ cleaner.
NOTE: Typical values are +100mV or higher for an AISI 304, and for a carbon steel (not stainless) –
500mV. If you get a positive value, the tested area of your stainless steel is passive. If you get a
negative value, the tested area of your stainless steel is active.
NOTICE: It is known that during the welding process, the heat treatment alters the passivation of the
stainless steel and forms a layer of non protective oxides, slug and iridescence. It is not recommended
to use the tester in these areas without prior cleaning. Without proper cleaning, it may cause false
results due to the dielectric behaviour of the non-protective oxides and slug and risk irreparably
polluting the tip which therefore distorts subsequent readings.

8. Warranty and service

8.1 Warranty policy

All WALTER SURFOX cleaning systems and accessories are inspected and tested before shipment and
are warranted to be free from any defect in material and faulty workmanship. Should any malfunction
occur within six (6) months from the date of original purchase, return the complete system prepaid with
proof of purchase, to the nearest WALTER Authorized Service Center. If an examination shows that the
malfunction was caused by defective material or faulty workmanship, WALTER will repair (or at our
option, replace the unit) without charge. This warranty does not apply when; normal maintenance is
required, repairs or replacements have been made or were attempted by anyone other than WALTER
authorized service personnel, and does not cover any damage caused by accidents, modifications, use
of improper accessories, abuse or misuse, which also includes overloading the tool beyond its rated
capacity as well as its continued use after partial failure. No other warranty, written or verbal, is
authorized.
