- Fit the left-hand wing panel and connect the leads from the left-
hand wing.

- Push the wing panels in as far as they will go, taking care to avoid
trapping the servo leads in the joint.

- Push the plastic retaining dowels into the holes in the top of the
fuselage to secure the wings.
- Push the plastic dowels fully home.

- Solder connectors to the flight battery and insulate the joints with
heat-shrink sleeves; the connectors must match those fitted to
the speed controller.
- Apply a strip of Velcro (hook-and-loop) tape to the centre of the
flight pack.

- Apply the mating piece of Velcro tape inside the fuselage in the
position shown.

- Press the flight battery into place in the fuselage, but do not
connect it at this stage.
- Apply a further strip of Velcro tape aft of the battery to secure the
receiver.

- Apply the mating piece of Velcro tape to the receiver and install
it in the fuselage. Deploy the receiver aerial as described in the
instructions supplied with your radio control system.

- The model's Centre of Gravity (C.G.) should be located at a point
70 mm from the root leading edge. Mark this point on both sides
of the fuselage.
- Support the model at the marked points and allow it to hang fre-
ely. The balance point is correct when the fuselage remains hori-
zontal, with the nose slightly down.
- If necessary, adjust the position of the flight battery to correct the
model's balance.

Assembly and operating instructions
Arcus Sport
- Mark the battery location in the fuselage, so that you can be con-
fident of replacing it in the same position after removing it.
- Fit additional scrap pieces of foam round the battery to wedge it
in its proper position, so that it cannot possibly move in flight and
change the model's balance.

- Refer to the instructions supplied with your radio control system
during the following stages.
- Connect the speed controller to the receiver.
- Switch the transmitter on, and move the throttle stick to the
"motor stopped" end-point.
- Connect the charged flight battery.
Power system
- Hold the aeroplane in such a way that the propeller is free to
rotate. Caution: keep well clear of the rotational plane of the
propeller - injury hazard. This applies whenever you are wor-
king on the power system for assembly, maintenance and
adjustment work, as well as prior to launch.
- Note that the propeller blades unfold abruptly when the motor
starts turning.
- Check the direction of rotation of the motor. When viewed from
the front, the propeller must spin anti-clockwise. If this is not the
case - perhaps because you are using components other than
those recommended - you can reverse the direction of rotation
by swapping over any two of the three wires between motor and
speed controller.
- When you are satisfied, disconnect the flight battery from the
speed controller before switching the transmitter off.

- For safety reasons remove the propeller from the motor befo-
re carrying out the next stage involving the receiving system:
undo the spinner cap, loosen the propeller hub and remove the
folding propeller.

- Connect the servos to the receiver, using the channel sequence
described in the RC system instructions.
- If you find that the aileron stick operates the flaps (and vice
versa), swap over the leads at the separation point at the wing
root (bridging plugs).

- Switch the transmitter on, then connect the flight battery.
- Check the neutral position of the control surfaces. If necessary,
screw the clevises in or out to correct the positions.
- Stand behind the model.
- Check the direction of rotation of the servos.
- Move the aileron stick to the right, and the right-hand aileron
should rise, the left-hand aileron fall.
- Pull the elevator stick back towards you, and the trailing edge of
the elevator should rise.
- Move the rudder stick to the right, and the rudder should deflect
to the right.
- If any function operates in the wrong 'sense', correct it using your
transmitter's servo reverse facility for that function.
- Set the control surface travels as stated in the drawings.
- Flap settings
up: 5 mm
down: 5 mm
- If you wish to use the flaps as a landing aid, they should deflect
down by 30 mm.
- All travels should be measured at the inboard end of the control
surfaces.
- Please note that the stated control surface travels are simply a
guideline for the first few flights. Most pilots will need to adjust
the final settings to suit individual preferences.
- For the same reason you may wish to apply Expo to the control
surface functions to suit your piloting style.
- Fit the canopy on the model again.
- Re-install the folding propeller.
- When dismantling the model, mark the aileron / flap servo
sockets at the separation point, so that you do not confuse
them next time you fly the model.
