5.4. Operation without technical ventilation
According to TRbF 20, Annex L (4.2), the PROTECTO hazardous material cabinet
can also be installed and operated without being connected to a technical
ventilation system.
In this case, please note:
• The inside of the cabinet is classed as a Zone 1 hazardous area
• The area within a radius of at least 2.5 m around the cabinet up to a height of at
least 0.5 m above the floor is a Zone 2 hazardous area
• If the place of use (workroom) has technical ventilation with a minimum of 5 air
changes, the Zone 2 hazardous area is reduced to 1 m around the cabinet and
0.3 m above the floor
• The hazardous area should be marked
6. Operation
6.1. General principles
Markings
All models are marked according to EN 14470 requirements.
Storage volumes / joint storage
Observe the applicable national regulations depending on the type classification for
your cabinet.
7. Decommissioning
The following time limits should be observed owing to the risk of fire and explosion:
7.1. After a fire
Caution: After a fire, the cabinets must not be opened until a period of at least 6
times the duration of the fire has elapsed. Depending on the duration of the fire, an
explosive steam-air mixture may have developed. Before opening the cabinet,
remove all possible sources of ignition within a radius of at least 10 m. Open the
doors extremely carefully. Use only non-sparking tools for this purpose.
