4.3. Sump / perforated plate insert

The sump in the floor of the PROTECTO safety cabinet serves to collect leaking
liquids inside the cabinet; it should not be used as additional storage space for
containers.
If the sump is fitted with a removable perforated plate insert, on the other hand, the
plate may be used for this purpose. In this case, the capacity of the sump is
reduced by about 2%.
If the cabinet includes a base pan as a special shelf, the retention capacity specified
under "Technical data -> Capacity of the sump" applies.

4.4. Replacing / checking the sump

4.5. Storage volumes

The sump must have a minimum retention capacity equivalent to 10% of the (total)
storage volume or at least 110% of the capacity of the largest individual container.
Please refer to the marking on the outside of the cabinet. This depends on the
circumstances of your application: you may need to install a bigger sump if the
capacity of the largest individual container is greater than that of the sump for your
particular cabinet type.

5. Ventilation

5.1. General

All models can be connected to an technical exhaust system via the exhaust air
outlet. The required air change intervals, maximum pressure drop and exhaust air
ducts depend on the applicable national regulations.
Example: Germany
According to TRbF 20, Annex L (Technical Regulations for Flammable Liquids),
PROTECTO safety cabinets should, for safety reasons, be connected to a technical
exhaust system which leads into the open at a place where no danger exists. At
least 10 air changes per hour must take place inside the ventilated safety cabinet
when the doors are closed, and the pressure drop must not exceed 1.5 mbar (150
Pa). The air changes should be checked and documented, e.g. using an air flow
test tube!

Any leaked liquids which have collected in the sump should be
removed and properly disposed of prior to removing the pan.
Remember to connect the sump to the potential connection again
after removing it.
