Risk of death from carbon monoxide
when operating with air-ventilated
fireplaces.
Ensure sufficient supply air intake during
operation with air-ventilated fireplaces. Note
maximum permissible pressure difference per
residential unit. The consent of a professional
chimney sweep is needed in all cases.
Ventilation units may only be installed in
rooms, apartments or housing units of a com-
parable size, in which air-ventilated fireplaces
are installed if:
● a parallel operation of air-ventilated fire-
places for liquid or gaseous fuels and the
air-extracting equipment can be prevented
via safety devices, or
● the extraction of exhaust gas from the
air-ventilated fireplaces is monitored by
special safety equipment. In the case of
air-ventilated fireplaces for liquid or gas-
eous fuels, the fireplace or the ventilation
system must be switched off if the safety
device is triggered.
In the case of air-ventilated fireplaces for
solid fuels, the ventilation system must be
switched off if the safety device is triggered.
In order for ventilation systems (equipped with
central ventilation units with heat recovery) to
be operated as intended, it must be possible
to close off any combustion air ducts or ex-
haust gas ducts from air-ventilated fireplaces
while the fireplaces are not being used.
For exhaust gas ducts of fireplaces for solid
fuels, the shut-off device may only be operat-
ed by hand. It must be possible to identify the
position of the shut-off device from the setting
of the operating handle. This is considered
to be fulfilled if a soot blocking device is
deployed.
Ventilation units must not be installed
if there are air-ventilated fireplaces in the
housing unit that are connected to exhaust
gas systems, which themselves have multiple
connections.

Explanations of safety devices
The safety device is checked for electronic
and functional safety using the safety objec-
tives of DVGWVP 121. A product standard
based on this exists in the form of
E DIN 18841:2005-12.
Fire protection requirements
In terms of the fire protection installation
requirements for setting up the ventilation
system, note the state regulations, especially
the official guideline on fire protection require-
ments of ventilation systems in its most recent
version.
Exercise caution when handling
packaging materials.  Observe
applicable safety and accident prevention
requirements.  Store packaging material out
of the reach of children.
Vapours from enthalpy heat exchang-
er. Possible odours come from the
installed components and pose no risk to
health. They disappear after a short while.
Development of odours in the beginning is
due to the new components and does not
constitute grounds for a complaint.
8 Requirements at the installation
site
● Ambient temperature + 10 °C to + 40 °C.
● Space of at least 70 cm in front of/below the
unit.
● Note the space needed for additional com-
ponents.
