Troubleshooting
The following checklist will help you remedy
problems you may encounter with the player.
Before going through the checklist below,
check the connection and operating
procedures.
General
This player does not turn on.
•Check the connections.
•If you find the connections in order, check
the fuse.
t If the fuse is blown, replace it with a
correctly rated fuse.
t If the fuse blows again, consult your
nearest Sony dealer.
•The player may be overheated.
t Make sure that the player is turned off.
Wait until the player cools off, then
press (POWER) again.
The contents of the memory have been
erased.
•The power lead or battery has been
disconnected.
•The power connecting lead is not
connected properly.
Stored settings are erased.
The fuse has blown.
Makes noise when the ignition key is in the
ON, ACC, or OFF position.
The leads are not matched correctly with the
car's accessory power connector.
No power is being supplied to the unit.
•Check the connection. If everything is in
order, check the fuse.
•The car does not have an ACC position.
t Press (POWER).
The power is continuously supplied to the
unit.
The car does not have an ACC position.
t Press and hold (POWER).
Disc/"Memory Stick" playback
A disc cannot be loaded.
•Another disc is already loaded.
•The disc is forcibly inserted upside down
or in the wrong way.
•Be sure to insert an 8-cm disc in the centre
area of the disc slot. If you insert an 8-cm
disc in the side of the disc slot, it may not
be loaded.
MP3 files cannot be played back.
•Recording was not performed according to
the ISO 9660 level 1 or level 2 format, or
the Joliet convention in the expansion
format.
•The file extension ".MP3" is not added to
the file name.
•Files are not stored in MP3 format.
JPEG files cannot be displayed.
JPEG files are not displayed correctly.
•The file extension ".JPG" is not added to
the file name.
•Files are not stored in JPEG format.
MP3/JPEG files take longer to play back
than others.
The following discs/"Memory Stick" take a
longer time to start playback.
— a disc/"Memory Stick" recorded with a
complicated tree structure.
— a disc to which data can be added.
Playback functions such as pause are
deactivated.
•The RESET button has been pressed.
•The disc/"Memory Stick" is ejected.
The sound skips.
•Dirty or defective disc.
•The player is installed in the place subject
to severe vibrations.
A "Memory Stick" cannot be played.
A "Memory Stick" that cannot be played on
this player is inserted.
Resume playback is not possible.
When the "Memory Stick" is removed and
disc playback restarts, playback is started
from the beginning of the disc. To enable
resume playback again, remove and reinsert
the disc.
