PSB
5.5 Connecting the plasma-cutting torch
5.5.1 Compressed air for plasma and cooling gas.
5.5.2 Filtered compressed air free of oil and water
NOTE
• Observe the correct assignment and tight fit of the connections.
• Since the plasma nozzle cannot be protected against direct contact for
technical reasons, it is necessary for the plasma cutting power source to
satisfy the requirements of EN 60974-7, Item 7.4.2.
• The plasma-cutting torch in connection with the plasma power source
must conform to EN 60974-10.
• Plasma power source must also be conform to EN 60974-1.
• The type of ignition (contact or HF) and the output (rated current and
corresponding duty cycle) of the plasma power source and of the cutting
torch must be identical.
 Tab. 3 on page EN-4
NOTE
• Precise adjustment of the compressed air pressure and flow/volume are
important for: igniting the pilot arc, quality of cut, service life of torch and
wear parts.
• An inlet pressure (p) smaller than specified results in thermal overload.
The correct torch inlet pressure must be ensured by proper adjustment of
the pressure monitor on the system side.
 Tab. 4 on page EN-5
NOTE
• Use only compressed air which is free of dirt, oil and water.
• We recommend:
• Initial filter 5µm of retained particle size
• Submicro filter 0.01 µm of retained particle size
• 99.99% of oil separation rate
• Air throughput for PSB 31 at least 4.5bar: >160 l/min
Air throughput for PSB 60 at least 6.0bar: >180 l/min
Air throughput for PSB 121 at least 6.0bar: >180 l/min
