4. INSTALLATION AND HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS
4.1
Transport, storage handling
All transport, storage and handling operations shall be carried out by qualified personnel, using
appropriate facilities.
The pressure reducer shall be transported and stored in their original packages; any deterioration
of the package can lead to incorrect operation or affect the safety of the product.
The pressure reducer must be stored in a room which is protected from dust and humidity, at
temperatures between -40°C and +70°C (-40°F and +158°F); do not subject the unprotected pressure
reducer to bad weather conditions.
Valve and pressure reducer must not be used as a carrying handle for the cylinder.
Always remove the pressure reducer from the cylinder when you transport it.
Never work on the equipment when it is under pressure (risk of projection of the equipment).
Maintain the fluid-tightness of the system.
Never lubricate the equipment or its accessories (explosion risks).
Open the cylinder valve slowly (adiabatic compression, hammering phenomenon).
Ensure that the vent holes are never blocked (risk of projection equipment).
Do not smoke near the pressure reducer (explosion risks).
Do not heat the pressure reducer, or bring a flame near it (explosion risk, possible damage to the
equipment).
Never back-feed pressure reducer (allow fluid to enter through the outlet): you are liable to
contaminate it and damage it.
Never place the filled bottles in the sun or near a radiator.
Do not use foreign parts, eg tape, to make entry and exit sealed.
Always choose the location of the bottle so that it can not fall.
Do not put the valve in contact with oil or grease, not wearing clothes stained with oil or fat due to
explosion hazard (see also section "Cleaning")!
Since the regulator is made of metal, pay attention to magnetic effects.
The heat increases the existing pressure. Pay attention to the maximum working pressure. Avoid
any important thermal influences – Risk of explosion!
Use only equipment which is in perfect condition.
Observe the cleanliness of this equipment. Incorporation of particles during the various operations
is the cause of most failures.
The regulator should be absolutely free from any oil or grease. It is essential to wash hands prior to
any change in the bottle and do not use hand cream.
Before handling the regulator, be sure to have clean hands, without traces of lotion, vaseline or
other grease.
Keep the equipment out of the reach of children.
4.2
Routine Checks
The pressure reducers are delivered bare, with the inlets and outlets not installed.
Before installing the pressure reducer, check the visual presence of all elements (suitable
connections, pressure indicator, ...).
The reducer must not be exposed to any violent impact: a deformed or damaged valve must not be
used. In such a case, send it back for expertise.
Use only material in perfect condition and compatible with the type of gas used, in accordance to
the specified operating pressure and the desired flow rates. If necessary, choose an adapted tube for
the socket (in accordance with tube manufacturer).
WARNING : Many steels and even some stainless steels (AISI 304, for example) may be susceptible to
hydrogen embrittlement.
Pay attention to constant cleanliness of the valve. Keep it and its connections clean to insure that
no particles are mixed with the gas.
This reducer must be connected to accessories. Connection and disconnection operation must be
