2. Safety precautions
2.1 Keep the working area tidy. Untidiness and bad organisation of the working
area can lead to accidents.
2.2 The influences of the environment in which you are working must be taken
into account. Do not position the equipment where the motor unit will beco-
me wet, where the electric extension cable will lie in water or where plug
connections are exposed to rain. Ensure that the area is well it. Do not use
the equipment in the vicinity of inflammable liquids and gases.
2.3 Keep children away from the working area. Keep unauthorised persons
away from the working area and ensure that core bits and extension cables
etc. are not tampered with.
2.4 Motor units, other parts and tools should be kept in a dry, secure place out
of reach of children when not in use.
2.5 Do not overload the system. The equipment will operate more efficiently
and more safely within its specified performance range.
2.6 Do not use the equipment for purposes and applications for which it was
not designed.
2.7 Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery which could
become caught in moving parts of the machinery. Wear a helmet, protective
goggles, protective gloves, safety shoes, ear protectors and a hair net if you
have long hair.
2.8 Do not use the electric cable for other purposes. Do not carry the motor unit
by the cable and do not pull on the cable when unplugging. Do not subject
the cable to excessive heat and avoid sharp edges which could cause
damage. The cable should not be allowed to come into contact with oil.
2.9 Avoid body positions in which the back is bent when carrying motor units
and other heavy items. Maintain a secure stance and always stay in balan-
ce.
2.10 Careful cleaning and lubrication of the equipment will help to ensure that it
operates safely and reliably. Follow the servicing and maintenance instruc-
tions. Keep the grips dry and free of oil and grease.
2.11 Disconnect the electric extension cable from the mains supply when the
equipment is not in use, during transport, before inspection or maintenance,
when changing core bits and when setting up or dismantling the rig.
2.12 Do not leave tools in position on the equipment (e.g. open-end wrench on
nut). Check that all wrenches and setting-up tools have been removed
before switching on the motor.
2.13 Use only approved and correspondingly marked electric extension cables.
2.14 Stay alert and carefully observe the progress of your work. Proceed logically
and do not use the system and tools when your full concentration is not on
the job.
2.15 Check the system units and electric cables for damage and correct operati-
on before use. Check that all parts have been assembled correctly and con-
sider all other factors which could influence operation of the equipment.
Contact your Hilti service centre if faults or deficiencies are found. Repairs
to electrical parts must be carried out by a qualified electrical specialist.

Do not use this product in any way
other than as directed by these ope-
rating instructions.
Keep these operating instructions in
a safe place for future reference.
2.16 Use only the original Hilti parts and accessories listed in the operating
instructions or parts catalogue. The use of other parts could cause personal
injury or damage to the equipment.
2.17 The electrical and mechanical safety of the diamond drilling system and
accessories such as electric extension cables must be checked at regular
intervals in accordance with national regulations. The intervals at which
equipment used on construction sites requires to be checked vary from
country to country.
The checks applicable to the earth / ground conductor of the DD-400E
motor unit and electric extension cable and cable drum through which it is
connected are particularly critical and important as this conductor carries
no electrical load during normal operating conditions.
2.18 Protect yourself from the risk of electric shock. Avoid touching earthed /
grounded objects such as pipes and radiators etc. The DD-400E is also
earthed / grounded. Bearing these safety precautions in mind, the rig
should be operated by gripping the insulated handwheel.
2.19 The baseplate must be securely fastened before setting up or operating the
rig.
2.20 Fastening the unit using a vacuum pump is not allowed.
2.21 Do not touch rotating parts.
