intended can lead to dangerous situations.
g) Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles prevent
safe handling and control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
5) Service
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only
identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool
is maintained.
Safety instructions for electric soldering tongs
WARNING
Read all the safety notes, instructions, illustrations and technical data which
come with this power tool. Failure to heed the following instructions can lead to
electric shock, fire and/or severe injuries.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
● Do not use the power tool if it is damaged. There is a danger of accident.
● Only connect the power tool of protection class I to a socket/extension lead
with a functioning PE conductor. There is a danger of electric shock.
● Only touch the power tool on the handle (3) when it is plugged into an outlet.
The solder fitttings (1) and the heating cartridges (2) reach operating temperatures
of approx. 800°C. Touching these parts can cause severe burns.
● Let the electric power tool cool down for a long time after unplugging before
touching the solder fittings (1) and/or the heating cartridges. Touching parts
that are still hot during the cooling phase can cause severe burns. The power
tool takes a long time to cool down after unplugging.
● Do not accelerate the cooling process of the power tool by immersing it in
liquid. There is a danger of injury from electric shock and/or sudden spurting of
the liquid. This could damage the power tool.
● Only place the power tool in the steel case with fire-resistant inlay (Fig. 2)
or on a fire-resistant surface (e.g. brick). Placing the hot power tool on a
surface which is not fire-resistant or in the vicinity of inflammable material can
damage the surface and/or cause a fire.
● Place the steel case on a fire-resistant surface (e.g. brick) when it contains
the hot power tool. The steel case gets hot despite the fire-resistant inlay. The
surface could be damaged or a fire could be caused.
● Make sure that you keep your hands far enough away from the hot soldering
point or wear suitable protective gloves during soldering. The solder fitting
and pipe get very hot and can cause severe burns. The soldering point stays
very hot for a long time after completion.
● Protect third persons from the hot power tool and hot solder connections.
Touching the hot parts causes severe burns.
● Never let the power tool operate unattended. Switch off the power tool
during longer work breaks, pull out the mains plug/battery and remove all
hoses/plugs if necessary. Electrical devices can cause hazards which lead to
material damage or injury when left unattended.
● Children and persons who, due to their physical, sensory or mental abilities
or lack of experience and knowledge are unable to operate the power tool
safely may not use this power tool without supervision or instruction by a
responsible person. Otherwise there is a risk of operating errors and injuries.
● Only allow trained persons to use the power tool. Apprentices may only use
the power tool when they are over 16, when this is necessary for their training
and when they are supervised by a trained operative.
● Check the power cable of the power tool and extension leads regularly for
damage. Have these renewed by qualified experts or an authorised REMS
customer service workshop in case of damage.
● Only use approved and appropriately marked extension leads with a suffi-
cient cable cross-section. Use extension leads up to a length of 10 m with
cable cross­section 1.5 mm², from 10 – 30 m with cable cross­section 2.5 mm².

1. Technical Data
Use for the intended purpose
WARNING
REMS Hot Dog 2 is designed for soft soldering of copper pipes.
All other uses are not for the intended purpose and are therefore prohibited.

Weighted effective value of acceleration
The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration has been measured
against standard test procedures and can be used by way of comparison with
another device. The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration can also
be used as a preliminary evaluation of the exposure.
CAUTION
The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration can differ during oper-
ation from the indicated value, dependent on the manner in which the device
is used. Dependent upon the actual conditions of use (periodic duty) it may be
necessary to establish safety precautions for the protection of the operator.
2. Preparations for use
2.1. Electrical connection
WARNING
Caution: Mains voltage present! Before connecting the power tool, check
whether the voltage given on the rating plate corresponds to the mains voltage.
Only connect power tools of protection class to a socket/extension lead with a
functioning protective contact. On building sites, in a wet environment, indoors
and outdoors or under similar installation conditions, only operate the power
tool on the mains with a fault current protection switch (FI switch) which inter-
rupts the power supply as soon as the leakage current to earth exceeds 30 mA
for 200 ms.
2.2. Preparing the electric soldering tongs
Place the steel case on a fire-resistant surface (e.g. brick) and open it. The
electric soldering tongs must be placed in the steel case with the solder fittings
(1) above the fire-resistant inlay as shown in fig. 2. Alternatively, the electric
soldering tongs can be placed outside the steel case on a fire-resistant surface.
3. Operation
3.1. Electric soldering clamp
Once connected to the mains, the soldering pistol is switched on. After
approximatively 5 min. it is ready for use. By pressing the handles (3) together,
the soldering pieces (1) open. The front holes of the soldering pieces are
provided for the diameters 10 to 16 mm, the rear holes for the diameters 18 to
28 mm. Position the soldering pieces (1) corresponding to diameter on the pipe
close to the sleeve or onto the sleeve so that there is a maximum of contact
between the soldering pieces (1) and the pipe (or sleeve) and that the solder
can be joined without touching the soldering pieces (1).
The soldering process needs 10 to 30 sec. depending on the diameter of pipe
and the melting temperature of the solder.
The electric soldering tongs can be used in continuous operation.
3.2. Soldering material
For soft solder use REMS Lot Cu 3. Copper pipes- and fittings must be c lean.
For the preparation of the solder point put REMS Paste Cu 3 onto the pipe.
This paste contains solder powder and flux. The advantages of this p aste are
that the required temperature for soldering is visible through the change of
colour of the paste and that a better filling of the soldering point is gained. In
any case however REMS Lot Cu 3 has to be added. REMS Lot Cu 3 and REMS
Paste Cu 3 have been specially developped for drinking water installations and
correspond to the respective DIN standards.
