8. Open the pinch clamp on the tubing so that drainage can begin.
Please note: The flow can be slowed or interrupted when:
• The fluid has almost completely drained
• The fluid has a high viscosity

• The safety valve is blocked due to a clot* or a protein thread
9. When you have reached the drainage amount recommended by your doctor, stop drainage by
closing the pinch clamp. The top stop button shows you the drained amount.
Final steps
1.
Open the packaging of the drainova® Silicone Cap or the PleurX™ Protective Cap. But to begin
with, leave the cap in the packaging.
2. Take the tubing in one hand and the safety valve in the other hand. Pull the access tip in a firm,
smooth motion out of the safety valve. Place the tubing down.
3. Clean the safety valve for approx. 30 seconds with an alcohol wipe or other suitable alcohol-based
disinfectant and then dispose of the used wipe.
Warning: Do not use Octenisept® or other disinfectants containing iodine.

Attach either the drainova® Silicone Cap or PleurX™ Protective Cap:

Using the drainova® Silicone Cap:
Securely attach the new sterile Drainova® Silicone Cap onto the safety valve of the cat-
heter. The cap will stay in place without the need for additional support.
