DESIGN OF LEICA M-LENSES
All Leica M-lenses are basically of the same design. There are: an aperture
setting ring (4), a distance setting ring (5), a fixed ring (6) with an index for
focusing (6a), a depth of field scale (6b), and a red alignment button for lens
change (6c).
Furthermore, the Leica Summilux-M 50 mm f/1.4 ASPH. is equipped with a
built-in telescopic lens hood (2) which can be locked in the working position.
A 6 bit lens identification bar code (7) is situated on the bayonet flange. It
relays lens data to the camera body so the exposure metering system of digi-
tal Leica M models can be calibrated. The information is also used to custom-
optimize image data according to the respective lens.
FOCUSING
The lens is focused by rotating the distance-setting ring (5). The finger-grip
(5a) facilitates quick and easy handling.
DEPTH OF FIELD SCALE
The scale (6b) on the fixed ring (6) shows the range of the depth of field for
the set distance. The ranges are indicated by the correspondingly marked
vertical sections of the lines.
