3.4.6 REPLACING TIlE SPARKPLUG
See EngineSpecificationsfor recommendedspark plug. Replace
the plug once eachyear. This will helpthe enginestart easierand
run better.
1. Stop the engine and pull the spark plug wire off of the spark
plug.
2. Cleanthe area aroundthe spark plug and remove it from the
cylinder head.
3. Set the spark plug's gap to 0.70-0.80 mm (0.028-0.031 in.).
Installthe correctly gapped spark plug into the cylinder head
(Figure16).

3.4.7 BATTERY REPLACEMENT [IF APPLICABLE)_
NOTE:
The battery shippedwith the generator has been fully charged.
A battery may lose some of its charge when not in use for
prolonged periodsof time. If the battery is unable to crank
the engine,plug in the 12V charger includedin the accessory
box (see the Charging a Battery section). RUNNING THE
GENERATORDOES NOT CHARGETHE BATTERY.The part
numberfor this battery is OGg44g.

,_The NEGATIVE battery terminal should:
1. Always be DISCONNECTED F IRST.
2. Alwaysbe CONNECTED LAST.
3.5 SERVICE AIRCLEANER
The engine will not run properly and may be damagedif using a
dirty air cleaner.Cleanthe air filter every 20 hours and replacethe
air cleaner paperfilter once a year. Cleanor replacemore often if
operatingunder dusty conditions (Figure18).
Toclean or replacepaperair filter:
• Removeair cleanercover and remove paperfilter.
• Cleanpaper filter by tapping it gently on a solid surface. If the
filter is too dirty, replaceit with a new one. Dispose of the old
filter properly. You will need part number 0G84420151 for a
new air filter.
• Cleanair cleanercover,then insert newpaperfilter intothe base
of the air cleaner.Re-installair cleanercover.

3.6 VALVE CLEARANCE
• Intake-- 0.15 _ O.02mm (cold), (0.006" _ 0.0008" inches)
• Exhaust-- 0.20 _ O.02mm(cold) (0.008" _ 0.0008" inches)
After the first 50 hours of operation, checkthe valve clearance
in the engineand adjust if necessary.
important:If feeling uncomfortable about doing this procedureor
the proper tools are not available, pleasetake the generatorto the
nearestservice centerto havethe valve clearanceadjusted.This is
a very important step to ensurelongest life for the engine.
