MAINTENANCE
IMPORTANT! YOU SHOULD CHECK THE SHARPNESS OF THE BLADE AND THE
NUTS AND BOLTS THAT ATTACH IT TO THE HEEL OF THE STEERING WHEEL BE-
FORE EACH OPERATION.
IMPORTANT! WHENEVER YOU PERFORM MAINTENANCE OR ANY TYPE OF SER-
VICE OR CHECK THE BLADE, BE SURE TO CHECK THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE
BLADE AND THE WEAR PLATE FOR PROPER FIT.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
Keep the machine, implements and accessories in safe working condition.
Before each use, check that the engine mounting bolts and other hardware are tight. Never operate
your chipper in poor mechanical condition or when it needs repair. Make sure all safety guards are in the
correct position. These safety devices are for your protection.
Never store the machine with fuel in the tank inside a building where there are ignition sources, such as
water and space heaters, clothes dryers, and the like. Let the engine cool before storing it in any room.
Always refer to the operator's manual for important details if the machine will be stored for an extended
period. If it is necessary to empty the fuel tank, do so outdoors.
If for any reason it is necessary to unclog the feed inlet or outlet or to inspect or repair the machine in a
location where a moving part may come into contact with the body or clothing, turn off the machine,
allow all moving parts to cool. come to a complete stop, disconnect the spark plug wires and allow the
engine to cool before attempting to unclog, inspect or repair the machine.
Check the tightness of the blade mounting screws before each use. Also visually inspect the blade for
wear or damage. Replace the blade with parts that meet the original equipment specifications.
Before each use, check the sharpness of the blades and the tightness of the bolts that hold them to the
drum. Change the locking nuts that secure the blade each time you change the blade.
Check the distance between the blade and the wear plate every time you sharpen or change the blade.
Never tamper with safety devices. Regularly check its correct operation.
Inspect the belt each time you use the unit. Look for damage, worn areas, or tears. Do not use the unit if
this condition exists.
Do not manipulate the engine governor adjustment. The governor controls the maximum safe operating
speed and protects the motor. Overspeeding the engine is dangerous and will cause damage to the
engine and other moving parts of the machine.
If the cutting mechanism hits any foreign object or if your machine begins to make an unusual noise or
vibrate, stop the engine, disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs, and allow the engine to cool
before:
Inspect and examine for obvious damage.
Check for loose parts, bolts and nuts.
When not in use, make sure your shredder is stored out of the reach of children and in an area free of
gasoline fumes. For long periods of storage (during winter), consult the engine owner's manual.
After every 8 hours of operation, lubricate the side of the chipper and the bearings on the drive side. Wipe
all dirt from the grease fittings with a clean cloth and then apply no more than 3 shots of quality general
purpose grease with a hand-pumped grease gun.
Excess lubrication can also damage bearings. Also, regularly check the bearing collar screws to make sure
they are tight. If they are loose, tighten them with Loctite, which you can find at any hardware store. You
will find additional information on the operation and maintenance of the wood chipper motor in the motor
manual. When the steel chipping blade needs to be replaced or sharpened, refer to the section on removal,
sharpening and reinstallation.
When installing the new OEM blade, check and adjust the clearance between the blade and anvil plate.
This gap should be set to 1.58 mm.
To adjust this gap, loosen the three nuts and bolts that hold the wear plate in place. You can slide the anvil
plate up or down (in or out) to achieve the proper fit.
Make sure the gap between the wear plate and the blade is adjusted correctly, as an incorrect adjustment
will cause excessive vibration when chipping and make the blade appear dull. You should check this every
8-10 hours of operation.
