Installation
The MSM-LC rotor A replaces the MSM Rotor A that is installed in the device.
Installation procedure
To install the MSM-LC rotor, proceed as follows (see also Fig. 1):
1. Disconnecting the suppressor from the IC system
Switch off the instrument.
Disconnect all capillary connections of the connecting piece B from the IC system.
2. Dismantling the suppressor
Unscrew union nut A from the rotor housing D.
Pull the connecting piece B and the standard rotor C out of the rotor housing D.
Note: Normally the connecting piece and the rotor stick to one another. If this is not the case: Take a sharp
object (e.g. screwdriver), insert into the slot in the housing, and pull out the rotor in this way.
Detach the connecting piece B from the rotor C.
3. Inserting the MSM-LC rotor A
Clean the surface of the rotor C with ethanol using a lint-free cloth.
Insert the rotor C into the rotor housing D in such a way that the tubing connections on the rear of rotor fit into
the corresponding recesses inside the housing and one of the three holes of the rotor is visible from below in
the slot of the housing.
Note: If the rotor is correctly inserted, its sealing surface will be approx. 4 mm within the housing. If this is not
the case, the rotor must be moved into the right position from below using a sharp object (e.g. screwdriver).
4. Inserting the connecting piece
Clean the sealing surface of the connecting piece B with ethanol using a lint-free cloth.
Insert the connecting piece B into the rotor housing D in such a way that the connector 1 is on top and the
three pins of the connecting piece fit into the corresponding recesses on the housing.
Tighten by hand the union nut A on the thread of the rotor housing D (do not use any tools).
5. Connecting and conditioning the suppressor
Reconnect the capillaries of the connecting piece to the IC system and condition the IC system.
Perfect functioning of the high pressure pump is imperative for utilization of the MSM-LC anion suppressor. Even the
smallest of impairments could reveal themselves in the form of interference signals within the baseline of the chro-
matogram.
Putting into operation
Before setting the instrument to work with the MSM-LC rotor A we recommend therefore:
carrying out maintenance of the high pressure pump, and
deaerating the high pressure pump after the assembly of the MSM-LC rotor
Operation
In general, the MSM-LC rotor A is operated in the same way as the other suppressors:
Regenerant: 50-100 mmol/L H
Rinsing solution: Ultra pure water
Eluent flow: 0.2 – 0.3 mL/min.
Peristaltic pump rate: 1-2
In order to ensure optimum operation of the suppressor, we recommend that the drip speed of the solutions at the
outlet of the suppressor ("waste reg."/"waste rins.") be checked at regular intervals.
Maintenance
It may be necessary to clean the connecting piece and rotor in the following instances:
Increased backpressure on the connection tubings of the rotor.
Blockage of the rotor which cannot be eliminated (solutions can no longer be pumped through the rotor).
Jamming of the rotor which cannot be eliminated (rotor can no longer be switched over).
Cleaning the suppressor
In order to clean the connecting piece and the rotor proceed as follows:
1. Disconnect the suppressor from the IC system and dismantle
(see Installation, steps 1-2)
