RCM master/slave mode
From software version 7.17.20 onwards, the RCM may generally be operated in two different modes:
master/slave mode or standalone mode. In its supplied state, the RCM is always configured for "stan-
dalone mode". In master/slave mode, up to three further RCMs (slaves) may be connected to one mas-
ter RCM. In this way, all values, settings and measurements from the slave RCMs can be managed from
the master RCM using an Ethernet connection (an IP address). The same is true of the following proto-
cols: SNMP, OPC UA, Modbus. All data communication is encrypted. Figure 7 shows how to connect
the devices.

Interface characteristics in master/slave mode
– Master RCM: The bridge function between the two Ethernet interfaces is deactivated, i.e. there are
two independent Ethernet interfaces with their own MAC addresses. The first interface (ETH1) is con-
nected to the customer network, while the second interface (ETH2) is connected to the first slave
RCM.
– Slave RCM: The bridge function between the Ethernet interfaces is activated. The connection be-
tween the slave RCMs is made directly via either ETH1 or ETH2 (without using the customer network).
– IP addresses: The IP addresses of the slave RCMs and the master RCM's ETH2 (connection to the
slave RCMs) are predefined. The IP address of the master RCM's ETH1 can be prescribed by the
customer network via DHCP or set by the customer, either via the website or on the display. The IP
addresses are shown on the display in the Settings – Controller information page menu.
Note:
USB, RS232 and the CAN interface are only supported on the master RCM.
