A pair of [2-TK] RCA jacks accept consumer-level (-10dBv) inputs from sources such as tape decks, CD
players, and MP3 players. Only connect consumer-level equipment to these jacks. Professional-level
equipment operating at +4dBu will distort unless you significantly lower the volume on such equipment.
2.
INSERTS
¼" TRS jacks on channels 1-5 allow you to plug external insert effect processors (gates, compressors, pitch
correction devices, etc.) into the signal path of these channels. The insert effect is inserted into the channel
signal directly after the preamplifier (controlled by the TRIM knob on the front of the unit) and before the
channel's EQ and fader.
The insert jacks require use of a special "insert" cable. This cable has a TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) connector on one
end for connection to the iMultiMix and two TS (Tip-Sleeve) connectors on the other end. Attach the "Send"
connector to the INPUT of your external processor. Then, attach the "Return" connector to the OUTPUT of
your processor.
USING THE iMULTIMIX9R FOR MULTITRACK AUDIO
RECORDING
The [INSERT] jack may also be used as a direct output to a multitrack recorder
such as the Alesis HD24. The send from the insert jack provides the cleanest
mic preamp signal by sending the signal to the recorder prior to the iMultiMix's
EQ and fader stages. Use a standard TRS cable and insert the plug on the
iMultiMix side only to the first "click" (the ring connector). This will send the
preamp signal to the recorder without interrupting the normal signal flow
through the mixer.
3.
AUXILLIARY SENDS AND RETURNS
Two pairs of auxiliary sends and returns allow you to connect effects that can be blended in with the source (or
"dry") signals. One typical example is to use one aux send for a reverb unit, and the other for a monitor mix for
the musicians.
4.
MAIN OUTPUTS
Two sets of MAIN OUTPUTS are provided—1/4" connectors operating at +4dBu (professional) level and
RCA connectors operating at -10dBv (consumer) level. Use the appropriate connectors for your recording or
PA applications. Both sets of connectors can be used simultaneously.
5.
MONITOR OUTPUTS
A pair of ¼", +4dBu outputs is provided for monitoring or recording to a two-track device.
6.
VIDEO OUTPUT
This output sends the video played by an iPod out via as a composite video signal via an RCA connection.
Noise and level
considerations
regarding unbalanced
signals
If you use the insert jacks for
recording, you will be sending
unbalanced signals to and from
your recorder. Since
unbalanced signals are more
susceptible to stray noise, take
extra care in keeping your
audio cables away from power
cables and other possible
sources of interference (like cell
phones and wireless networking
antennae).
