INSTALLATION-
AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1. 1
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Upon delivery
from the factory the
instrument complies with
the
requ ired safety regulations
(see chapter
4).
To maintain this
condition
and to ensure
safe
operation,
the instructions
below must carefully be followed.
1.
1.
1
Maintenance and
Repair
Failure
and excessive stress:
If the
instrument
is suspected of being
unsafe, take
it
out of operation
permanently.
This is
the
case
when the instrument
-
shows
physical damage
-
does not function anymore
-
is stressed beyond the tolerable limits
(e.g.
during storage
and
transportation).
Dismantling the Instrument:
When removing
covers or other parts by means
of
tools,
live
parts or terminals
cou ld be
exposed. Before
opening
the instrument, disconnect
it
from all
power
sources.
If
the
open
live
instrument
needs calibration, maintenance or
repair
,
it must
be
pe
rformed
only by
tra ined personnel
bein
g aware of the risks. After
disconnecti
on of
all
power
sources, the
capacitors in
the instrument may remain
charged
for
some seconds.

2
Earthing
(grounding)
Before any
other
connection
is made the
instrument
shall be connected to a protective earth
cond uc
tor via the three-core
mains
cable.
The mains plug
shall be
inserted only into a socket outlet provided
with
a
protective
earth con
-
tact.
The protective
action
shall
not be negated by the use
of an
extension
cord without
protective
conductor.
The
external
contacts of
the BNC sockets must not be
used
to
connect
a p
rot
ective
conductor.
WARNING:

Connections
Any interruption
of
the
protective
conductor
inside
or outside
th
e
instrument,
or disconnection
of
th
e protective earth
terminal,
is
likely
to
make
the
instrument
dangerous.
Intentional
interruption is
prohibited.
The
circuit
earth
potential
is applied to the
external contacts of
the
BNC
sockets
and
is
connected
to
the cabinet
by means
of
parallel-connected resistors
and
capacitors. By
this
means hum loops
are
avoided and a clear RF earthing
is
obtained
.
If
the
circuit
earth potential in
a measurement set-up
is
different from
the
protective
earth
potential,
it
must be noticed
,
that
the
BNC sockets
can
be touched and that
it
m ust
not be
live,
see
the safety
regulations
on
th
e
subject
(VOE 0411),
-
that all sockets
marked
with
th
e
sign
_!_
are internally
interconnected.
