Information about your safety, for the protection
of units and components of vehicles
These operating instructions are only valid in conjunction with the
operating instructions for the appropriate injection pump test bench.
The safety information stated therein must be observed.
Connection to the network:
The tester has to be connected only to an earthing-contact socket as
prescribed and the delivered mains connection cable must be used.
Rotating Parts:
When the engine is running, you might be injured by the rotating
parts. This can also occur when the engine does not run and the
ignition system is switched off under certain conditions if the fans
of the cooling system are driven by an electric motor.
1. Application
a) EPS 865 tester
The EPS 865 tester is used to check the distributor injection
pump in the electronically controlled diesel injection system
EDC (Electronic Diesel Control).
This system regulates the distributor injection pump by an electronic
control unit, and not mechanically, as in earlier systems. If tests are
carried out on an injection pump test bench, this function is taken
over by the EPS 865 tester.
The EPS 865 tester comprises the functions of the control unit
which are required for testing the pump and measures the check-
back signals from the distributor injection pump. The injection
timing solenoid valve is also activated by the tester. The
instantaneous resistance value (temperature dependent, see test
value sheet) is determined by a multimeter connected to the NTC
sockets (fig. 1, ref. 12) (fuel temperature sensor).
b) EPS 910 ballast
The EPS 910 ballast can only be operated in conjunction with the
EPS 865 tester.
Both these devices are used for testing the distributor injection
pump in the electronically controlled diesel injection system
EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) with a semi-differential short-
circuiting ring sensor.
The contactless semi-differential short-circuiting ring sensor
replaces the ohmic sensor of the slide travel sensor.
