PREPARING THE STEAM GENERATOR
IRON FOR THE FIRST USE
Unpacking and setting up the steam
generator iron
DANGER for children – danger of
death from suffocation/choking
Keep packaging material away from children.
There is a danger of suffocation, amongst other
things.
CAUTION – risk of material damage
•Place the steam generator iron on a flat, level
surface so that the iron and base unit cannot fall.
•There is a safety valve at the bottom of the
boiler that prevents a build-up of excess pressure
in the boiler. Some water may escape from this
valve during normal use. If necessary, place a
waterproof mat underneath the base unit.
1.Take the steam generator iron out of its packaging
and remove all of the packaging material.
2.Unwind the connection cord and mains cable
completely.
3.Place the steam generator iron on a level, stable
surface, for example on the iron rest area of a large,
stable ironing board. The ironing board must also re-
main stable when the water tank is completely full.
If your ironing board is not suitable, place the steam
generator iron on a stable, level side table next to
the ironing board.
Filling with water
What sort of water is suitable?
CAUTION – risk of material damage
Use tap water without any additives such as per-
fume, fabric softeners or starch.
Do not put any vinegar, limescale remover or other
additives into the water tank.
Do not use carbonated water.
If the water in your area is extremely hard (over
21 on the water hardness scale) you should use a
mixture of tap water and distilled water in a ratio
of 1:1.

•You can get information about the water hardness
in your area from your water provider or from the
responsible water works.
•You can obtain distilled water from chemists, hard-
ware shops or petrol stations, for example.
Removing the water tank
DANGER – danger of death from electro-
cution
Pull the plug out of the socket before you remove
the water tank.
1.Place the iron on the rest plate.
2.Take hold of the grip of the water tank and pull
the water tank out.
You can still remove the tank if there is
some water in the tank. Locking springs ensure
that, at most, only a few drops of water can escape
through the connections.
Filling the water tank
DANGER – danger of death from electro-
cution
Do not submerge the appliance in water. Also pro-
tect it from drops and splashes of water.
CAUTION – risk of material damage
If the Water tank indicator light comes on, switch
off the appliance immediately and refill with water.
Always fill the water tank with water before using
the steam ironing setting, otherwise the pump can
be damaged.
