OPERATING
INSTRUCTIONS
Design and function
Atlas Copco pusher legs of type BMT 51, ALF
71, ALF 71-1 and ALF 67/80 are used with light
rock drills of type BBC. The feeds are double-
acting with an automatic return. BMT 51, ALF
71 and ALF 71-1 are equipped with a one-stage
aluminium cylinder. ALF 67/80 is equipped with a
two-stage aluminium cylinder. The pusher legs are
connected to the rock drill by a bayonet coupling.
Recommended air pressure is 6 bar.
The pusher leg support is for helping the operator
to lift and feed the rock drill during drilling
operations. Pusher leg control is placed on the
back head of the rock drill.

Working principle of a pusher
leg
Function
The feeding movement of the pusher leg is
powered by compressed air, which is directed
to the upper side of the piston and pushes the
piston out of the cylinder. For automatic return of
the piston rod into the cylinder, compressed air is
directed to the lower side of the piston.
Preparations before starting
1. Check the drilling equipment
Check that all of the drilling equipment is in good
working order.
Make sure that the air inlet port is free from
obstruction.
Ensure that the fittings are tight and leak-proof.
Warning
Always check for damaged or loose hoses and
fittings before operation. Whipping hoses can
cause serious injury.
2. Blow through the air hose
Every day, before using the drill, blow through
the air hose to clear it of accumulated dirt and
moisture.
3. Fill the lubricator with oil
Note! Check that the chuck and drill-steel shank
are always covered with a film of oil.
Note! Always use a recommended lubricant.
