Ear Temperature Compared to Other Types of Body
Temperature
The normal temperature varies according to different locations on the body.
As ambient temperature, sweat, or saliva easily affects body temperature measured under the
arm or the tongue, readings may be lower than the core temperature.
The temperature measured in the ear is different to that measured rectally. Tympanic
temperature measurement accurately reflects the brain temperature and can lead to a quicker
detection of fever.
