PERSONAL SAFETY
CAUTION! Wear personal protective equipment approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or American
National Standards Institute (ANSI).
Personal protective equipment
1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection for the eyes. Wear a full-face shield if
your work creates metal filings or wood chips.
2. Wear gloves that provide protection based on the work materials or to reduce the effects of tool vibration.
3. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance in the work environment.
4. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment.
5. This tool can cause hearing damage. Wear hearing protection gear with an appropriate Noise Reduction Rating
to withstand the noise level.
Personal Precautions
Control the tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid personal injury or damage to tool.
1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications.
2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair
covered or bound.
3. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and balance enables better control in
unexpected situations.
4. Securely hold this tool using both hands. Using a tool with only one hand can result in loss of control.
SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1. Spilled gasoline and its vapours can ignite from cigarette sparks, electrical arcing, exhaust gases and hot
engine components such as the muffler. Never refuel the engine while it is hot or running. Move unit away from
refueling area before starting engine. Operate and fuel equipment in well-ventilated areas free
from obstructions.
2. The engine and exhaust become very hot during operation. Severe thermal burns can occur on contact,
especially with the muffler.
a. Keep the engine at least 3 feet (1 meter) away from buildings and other equipment during operation.
b. Remove accumulated debris from muffler and cylinder area. Combustible debris, such as leaves, grass,
brush, etc. can catch fire if they come in contact with a hot engine.
c. Do not place anything on the engine while it is running.
d. Allow muffler, engine cylinder and fins to cool before touching.
e. Install a spark arrestor (sold separately) before using equipment on forest-covered, grass-covered or brush-
covered unimproved land.
3. High pressure sprays can cause serious bodily injury. Do not aim the spray gun at people, animals or plants.
4. Do not spray flammable or toxic liquids.
5. Do not spray near a power source.
6. Do not leave the spray gun unattended while the unit is running.
7. Do not lock the spray gun in open position.
8. Only use a spray gun that has a trigger lock or trigger guard in place and in working order.
9. Using a pressure washer can create puddles and slippery surfaces. The work area should have adequate slopes
and drainage to reduce the possibility of falling due to slips.
10. Be careful when squeezing the trigger, as recoil from the spray gun can cause the operator to fall.
11. Always operate the pressure washer from a stable surface. Avoid using the pressure washer from precarious
locations such as ladders or scaffolding.
12. Do not attempt to repair damaged or defective high-pressure hoses. Always replace them.
