Flywheel Locking Pin 3788-22
• Remove blanking screw which is located on
the engine housing in order to insert the
Locking Pin 3788-22 in this hole.
• Rotate the crankshaft until the Locking Pin
3788-22 locks into place in one of the slots
in the flywheel.

Camshaft Locking Pin 3788-23
• Turn the engine until the camshaft sprocket
aligns with the timing hole in the cylinder
head (approximately the 2 o'clock position)
and insert Locking Pin 3788-23.

Injection Pump and Crankshaft Locking Pin
3788-21
• Check that the crankshaft keyway is in the
11 o'clock position and insert Locking Pin
3788-21 into the crankshaft gear.
ATTENTION: Locking Pin 3788-21 is
also used to lock the fuel injection
pump via holes in the pump sprocket
If there is no corresponding hole in pump
bracket to the hole in the sprocket, then
align by positioning the holes in sprocket
vertically.

Timing Belt Replacement
• Turn the tensioner roller anti-clockwise,
until the pointer is positioned on the prede-
termined position.
• Re-fit removed parts and remove the
locking pins.
• Carefully rotate the crankshaft 10 times
clockwise.
Maintenance work on engines must be carried out only by
experienced mechanics. Always wear personal protective equipment.

• Check engine timing by ensuring Locking
Pins 3788-21 and 3788-23 can be inserted
and fuel pump sprocket is correctly aligned.
• Re-check the tensioner pointer is positio-
ned within its position (figure 9).
• Insert Locking Pin 3788-22 into the
flywheel to fit the crankshaft pulley.

Part 1 A for timing belt replacement applica-
tions on 1.8TD engines are used for the
TDdi/TDCi engines.
