V 2.0
DC CONNECTION PRECAUTIONS
1. Connect and disconnect DC output clamps only after removing AC cord from the electric outlet.
2. Attach clamps to battery chassis as indicated in the BATTERY INSTALLED IN VEHICLE section steps 5 and 6,
or as indicated in the BATTERY OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE steps 2, 4, and 5.
UNPACKING
1. Carefully remove the parts and accessories from the box.
2. Make sure that all items listed in the parts lists are included.
3. Inspect the parts carefully to make sure the tool was not damaged while shipping.
4. Do not discard the packaging material until you have carefully inspected and satisfactorily operated the tool.
WARNING! If any part is missing, do not operate the tool until the missing parts are replaced. Failure to do so
could result in serious personal injury.
OPERATION
PREPARING TO CHARGE
1. Determine the voltage of the battery to be charged by referring to the vehicle manual.
2. It is necessary to remove the battery from the vehicle to charge, or to clean the terminals, always remove
grounded terminal from the battery first. Make sure all accessories in the vehicle are off, so as not to
cause an arc.
3. Clean battery terminals. Do not allow corrosion to come in contact with eyes.
4. Add distilled water in each cell until the battery acid reaches the level specified by the battery manufacturer.
This helps purge excessive gas from the cells. Do not overfill. For a battery without cell caps (maintenance
free), carefully follow the manufacturer's charging instructions.
5. Study all the battery manufacturer's specific precautions, such as removing or not removing caps while
charging, and recommended rates of charge.
6. Remove the battery completely from the boat, airplane or any confined area before charging.
NOTE: Beware of gas build-up in enclosed areas.
7. Make sure the initial charging rates does not exceed the battery manufacturer's requirement.
BATTERY INSTALLED IN VEHICLE
Follow these steps when the battery is installed in a vehicle. A spark near the battery may cause an explosion.
To reduce the risk of a spark near the battery:
1. Position AC and DC cords away from hood, door, or moving engine parts.
2. Stay clear of fan blades, belts, pulleys, and other parts that can cause injury to persons.
3. Check the polarity of the battery posts. POSITIVE (POS, P, +) battery post usually has larger diameter than
the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -) post.
4. Determine which post of the battery is grounded (connected to the chassis.) If negative post is grounded to
chassis (as in most vehicles), see 5. If positive is grounded to the chassis, see 6.
5. For negative-grounded vehicle, connect the POSITIVE (RED) clamp from the battery charger to the POSITIVE
(POS, P, +) ungrounded post of the battery. Connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) clamp to the vehicle chassis or
engine block away from the battery. Do no connect the clip to the carburetor, fuel lines, or sheet-metal body
parts. Connect to heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine block.
6. For positive-grounded vehicle, connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) clamp from the battery charger to the
NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -) ungrounded post of the battery. Connect the POSITIVE (RED) clamp to the vehicle's
chassis or engine block away from the battery. Do not connect the clip to the carburetor, fuel lines or sheet-
metal body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine block.
