1. INTRODUCTION
The TURBINE 170 is a filtering device that protects the respiratory tract. The ventilation unit which is carried on the belt
takes in air through a filter and expels it (filtered) through a pipe into a hood, a helmet or a mask. The flow of filtered air
creates a positive pressure inside the hood/helmet/mask and impedes the entry of external contaminated air into the
operator's breathing area. The continuous flow of air facilitates breathing and impedes the visor from steaming up,
therefore ensuring maximum comfort for the operator. In order to obtain maximum protection it is necessary to choose
the correct combination of the TURBINE 170 ventilation set, with filter, hood, helmet or mask.
Please consult the following tables for the possible combinations of hood/helmet/mask and for the protection levels
offered by various filters.
2. DESCRIPTION / SCOPE OF APPLICATION
The TURBINE 170 is made up of the following components:
‐ TURBINE 170 ventilation unit
Made up of a plastic container which contains a fan, an electric motor and a battery pack. At the bottom of the unit there
are two air inlets, threaded to secure the filters. A cylinder at the top allows air to escape; it is threaded internally to secure
the breathing tube. There are two lateral loops for connection of the back brace. At the top there is a power switch and 4
LEDs which indicate the status of the battery and flow.
‐ Belt with renal cushion
The belt, in extinguishing tape with nylon clasps, passes through the two rings which can be found on the body of the
ventilation unit. This has a renal cushion, so that the device can be worn in a more secure and comfortable way.
Alternatively it can be supplied a transparent PVC belt.
The TURBINE 170 is the main component in a series of devices, described in table 1.
The other components of the device are:
‐ Breathing hose
Made of polyurethane and internally reinforced with a plastic spring, equipped with a male connector which is threaded
so that it may be connected to the ventilation unit, and a bayonet connector for the connection to the helmet/hood or a
fitting connector for connection to the full mask.
‐ Protection systems for the face/head: hood/helmet/mask
The TURBINE 170 has been approved in combination with the helmet, the hood with visor, the light Tyvek® hood with
visor, and with the masks listed in the following table, according to the Standards EN 12941:1998+A2:2008 and EN
12942:1998+A2:2008 as PPE (personal protective equipment) which protect the respiratory tract according to Regulation
(EU) 2016/425.
