Thank you for placing your trust in our company by purcha-
sing the Weller WHS 40 soldering station. Production was
based on stringent quality requirements which guarantee the
perfect operation of the device.

1. Caution!

Please read these Operating Instructions and the attached
safety information carefully prior to initial operation. Failure
to observe the safety regulations results in a risk to life and
limb.
The manufacturer shall not be liable for damage resulting
from misuse of the machine or unauthorised alterations.
The Weller WHS 40 soldering station corresponds to the EC
Declaration of Conformity in accordance with the basic safe-
ty requirements of Directives 89/336/EEC and 73/23EEC.

2. Description

The Weller WHS 40 soldering station has been produced for
the demanding DIY electronics enthusiast. It is exactly the
right tool for professional soldering tasks in the electronics
field. With its analog temperature control, it is particularly
suitable for use on electronic components with high thermal
sensitivity. Using a rotary potentiometer, the desired tempe-
rature can be set with infinite variability in the range 200°C
- 450°C (400°F - 85°F). A green LED acts as a visual means
of checking the set temperature. The soldering bit, powered
by 18 V protective low voltage, has a power draw of 40 W at
200°C (400°F) and is connected to the station via a 3-pin
plug.
The soldering tip is equipped with an electroplated protecti-
ve coating. This protective coating prolongs the life of the
soldering tip substantially. The soldering bit holder and the
cleaning sponge are incorporated within the station's casing.

3. Commissioning

Mount the rest spring and funnel. To do this, insert the
attachment clip of the rest spring into the slot (1) provided for
it. Soak the cleaning sponge (2) with water. Place the solde-
ring bit in the safety rest. Insert the soldering bit plug (8) into
the connection socket (4) of the control unit. Compare the
mains voltage with the information on the type plate. If the
mains voltage is correct, plug the control unit into the mains.
Remove all inflammable objects from the vicinity of the sol-
dering bit. Set the desired temperature on the rotary poten-
tiometer (6) and switch on the unit at the mains switch (7).
The green LED (5) will light up. This point of light acts as a
visual check. When first heating up cover the soldering tip
(10) with solder.

4. Operating guidelines

The flux has a cleansing action in the sense that it dissolves
oxide films in many metals. During soldering on electronic
components, use is almost always made of a soldering wire
with flux core (flux cored solder). Fluxes containing rosin
which are not too aggressive should be used. The flux is not
a cleansing agent for dirt, dust, oils and fats.
During breaks in soldering and before resting the soldering
bit, always ensure that the soldering tip is well tinned. Any
mechanical action destroys the electroplated protective layer
of the soldering tip and drastically reduces the life of the sol-
dering tip.
The soldering tip (10) and fixing screw (9) should be remo-
ved from the soldering bit at regular intervals to prevent sei-
zing.
