Prepare to Install
! CAUTION: RISK OF FALLING OBJECTS. Read and follow all instructions
for mounting the shade system. Failure to follow these
instructions could result in minor to moderate injury.
Important Notes: Please Read Before Installing
A. Plan the installation to maintain sufficient clearance between the shades and any
other object, including window trim, hardware, cranks, lock levers, and drapery.
B. For safety, shades wider than 48 in (1219 mm) must be installed by 2 people.
C. The shade system, including the pocket or back cover, if applicable, must be
mounted to blocking or other suitable structural material. It is the responsibility
of the installer to choose and install fasteners that are appropriate for the
mounting surface such that each shade bracket can support 200 lbs (90.1 kg).
NOTE: The pictures and instructions in this document detail the installation of
left clutch, dual-mount shades. The sequence and methods are the same for
installing left and right clutch, as well as right clutch systems, although some
directional orientations will be opposite.

Prepare for Mounting in a Pocket or the Optional Back Cover
NOTE: If you are mounting directly to a wall or ceiling, skip this section and proceed directly to Section
IMPORTANT: Inspect the mounting surface and verify it is level and free of irregularities. Correct as necessary before proceeding with installation.
2.1 Install the Pocket, if applicable:
a. Position the shade pocket above the

window, ensuring that the pocket flap
hanging feature is on the side of the pocket

tighten the mounting screws.
NOTE: Mounting screws must be at least 6
in (152 mm) from the ends of the pocket to
avoid interference with the shade brackets.
c. Use the level to verify the pocket is level, straight, and untwisted. Shim to
correct as necessary. Before installing the shade(s), test-fit the pocket flap, if
applicable. The pocket must be straight and level to provide secure pocket flap
engagement along the entire length of the pocket.
d. Install pocket end caps, if applicable.

Install the Upper Shade in the Brackets
For ease of installation and removal, the idler is equipped with a dial for retracting the idler pin and locking it
in the retracted position.
NOTE: The shade ships with the idler pin locked in the retracted position ready to install. Please perform
Steps a and b in Step 4.1 below to familiarize yourself with the spring-loaded locking/unlocking action of the
idler pin retractor.
4.1 Retract the Idler Pin:
a. With the idler pin locked in the retracted position
as shipped, turn the retractor dial clockwise
(approximately
1
⁄
-turn), until the built-in spring
4
action extends the idler pin fully.
b. With the idler pin extended, turn the retractor dial
counter-clockwise (approximately
3
⁄
-turn), until
4
the built-in spring action locks the idler pin in the
fully-retracted position.
c. Ensure the idler pin is locked in the fully-retracted
position before proceeding to Step 4.2.

Install the Brackets
3.1 Mark Bracket Locations:
a. Use the tape measure and pencil to mark the mounting surface at the
extents of the bracket-to-bracket width (listed on the original order, and the
identification label on the shipping box), centered on the window opening.
BRACKET-TO-BRACKET WIDTH ±
3.2 Mount the Brackets:
Wall-mount or ceiling-mount the shade brackets according to the intent on
the original order. For wall-mount (on a wall or window frame), use the rear
mounting holes as shown. For ceiling-mount, (on a ceiling, in a pocket, or
inside a window frame), use the top mounting holes as shown.
IMPORTANT: When installing brackets in a back cover or pocket, the bracket
mounting screws must pass through the back cover or pocket, and drive into
blocking or other suitable structural material. The back cover or pocket alone will
not support the shade system.
a. Align the outer edge of the left bracket with the corresponding mark made in
Step 3.1.

c. Fasten the bracket to the mounting surface using appropriate fasteners.
d. Repeat Steps a through c at the other pencil mark to mount the right bracket.
e. Use the tape measure to verify the correct bracket-to-bracket distance.
Correct if necessary.
f. Use the level to verify the brackets are level with each other. Correct
if necessary.
4.3 Attach the Idler to the Upper Idler Bracket:
a. Find the idler pin landing zone on the upper idler receiver.
b. With the idler pin locked in the retracted
position (see Step 4.1), aim the idler at
the idler pin landing zone, and release
the idler pin retractor by turning the
retractor dial clockwise. (Use the flat
head screwdriver for this.) The idler pin
will extend and hit the landing zone.
c. Guide the extended idler pin toward the
hole. When the idler pin reaches the
hole, it will extend further, seating itself
into the hole and securing the shade.
d. Visually inspect the
idler-to-bracket
engagement and
verify that the idler is
fully seated in the idler
receiver, and no part of
the idler pin is visible.
If the idler pin (shiny
metal) is visible
