Brake bleed procedure.
WARNING! Familiarize yourself with the dangers of brake fl uid - read the manufacturer's
instructions on the container. Do not touch the vehicle brake pedal while bleeding the brakes.
Refer to the vehicle manufacturer's instructions for the brake bleed procedure and wheel
sequence before proceeding. If there are no specifi c vehicle manufacturer's instructions,
follow the detailed instructions below.
1. Remove the cap from the vehicle's main brake fl uid reservoir. If the fl uid level is not at the
maximum level, top up the fl uid.
2. Apply copper grease to the brake bleed fi ttings before and after the brake bleed procedure
to reduce the possibility of seizure or breakage of the fi ttings the next time the brakes are
bled.
3. Attach the appropriate size bleed nipple to the bleed nipple on the brake caliper of the fi rst
wheel, normally the one closest to the main brake fl uid reservoir.
4. Operate the vacuum pump until a vacuum of approximately 21 inHg is created.
5. Open the bleed nipple by about a quarter turn (Fig.16). Allow the brake fl uid to drain until
no air bubbles are visible in the brake fl uid in the clear hose.
6. Tighten the bleed nipple.
7. Remove the nipple from the brake coupling.
8. Repeat the operation if necessary at each wheel.
9. Check the main brake fl uid reservoir regularly to make sure the level is not too low, and top
up if necessary.
10. Empty the bleed tank regularly and do not allow the tank to overfi ll as the brake fl uid will
be sucked into the vacuum pump. When bleeding and/or changing brake fl uid is complete,
check the brake pedal action to make sure the brakes are working - before attempting
to drive the vehicle on the road and testing the vehicle to verify that the brake system is
working satisfactorily.
11. Clean the bleed valve components "with water only" after use.
