2/12/75A Battery Charger/Starter
Possible Cause(s)
1. Drawing more than
the Engine Start
Rate.
2. Failure to wait 4
minutes
(240 seconds)
between cranks.
3. Clips are not
making a good
connection.
4. AC cord and/or
extension cord is
loose.
5. No power at
receptacle.
6. The charger may be
overheated.
7. Battery may be
severely
discharged.
Suggested Solution(s)
1. Crank time varies with the amount of
current drawn. If cranking draws more
than the Engine Start Rate, crank time
may be less than 3 seconds.
2. Wait 4 minutes of rest time before the
next crank to allow the battery and
charger to cool down.
3. Check for poor connection at battery
and frame.
4. Check power cord and extension cord
for loose fitting plug.
5. Check for open fuse or circuit breaker
supplying AC outlet.
6. The thermal protector may have tripped
and needs a little longer to close. Make
sure the charger vents are not blocked.
Wait and try again.
7. On a severely discharged battery,
charge for 10 to 15 minutes in the
highest manual rate to help assist
in cranking.
