4. Cover the air outlet of the airflow meter with your hand until an
audible warning is heard and the red indicator illuminates
5. Remove your hand. The alarm should now stop.
6. Hold the flow meter tube vertical at eye level.
7. Wait until the position of the ball becomes stable (1-6 min) and
then check that the bottom of the ball is above, or at the same
level as the marking on the flow meter tube. If the ball does not
reach the level, check chapter Fault Finding
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Switch on 3M Adflo Powered Air Respirator by pressing the ON
button once (nominal airflow), twice (airflow plus). Pressing the
ON button a third time will make 3M Adflo Powered Air Respirator
return to nominal airflow.
One green indicator
= nominal airflow
(see technical specification)
Two green indicators
= airflow plus
(see technical specification)
To switch 3M Adflo Powered Air Respirator off, press the OFF
button for at least 1 second.
If the red light illuminates together with an audible warning, this
indicates that the airflow is too low (less than manufacturer's
minimum design flow rate). If the low flow alarm is active for
more than two minutes, 3M Adflo Powered Air Respirator will
automatically turn off.
3M Adflo Powered Air Respirator has a three bar battery indicator
(see fig E:1) showing remaining capacity. When the last bar starts
flashing and an audible warning is heard, less than 5% battery
capacity is remaining. The warning sound will noticeably change
after a while and 3M Adflo Powered Air Respirator will turn off
automatically. See Fault finding chapter for details.
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Clean the equipment with a mild detergent and water. If you
suspect that the inside of the breathing tube is dirty, it must be
changed.
To avoid damage to the equipment do not use solvents for
cleaning. Do not immerse in water or spray directly with liquids.
The Particle and Gas filters cannot be cleaned. Do not attempt to
remove contamination using for example compressed air as this
will damage the filters, the equipment will not give the expected
protection and the warranty will be invalidated.
The 3M™ Adflo™ Spark Arrestor/Pre filter protects and/or
increases the lifetime of the 3M Adflo Particle filter and should be
used at all times.
If a clean spark arrestor is not used there is an increased risk
of fire in the particle filter.
MAINTENANCE
The particle filter must be changed if the battery operating time
becomes too short or 3M Adflo Powered Air Respirator does not
give enough airflow. The graph (see fig I:1) shows the relation
between runtime in hours and the particle filter clogging. When the
red indicator is illuminated, you can expect a short battery runtime
and a particle filter replacement is recommended. Note! The start
point (indicator reading) is different when a gas-filter is added.
Replacement of:
● Battery see fig G:1. Replace and gently pull to confirm it is locked
in place.
● Particle filter/Pre filter/spark arrestor see fig H:1
● Belt see fig B:1
2
The particle filter indicator reflects particle clogging only. The
service life of the optional organic vapour/acid gas cartridge,
when used, must be estimated independently in accordance with
a change out schedule. Failure to do so may result in sickness
or death.
Worn out components should be disposed of according to local
regulations
FAULT FINDING
Should a fault occur which causes a stop, reduction or a sudden
increase in airflow within the headtop, leave the contaminated
workplace at once and check the following:

If the air density decreases (eg. at high altitudes), 3M Adflo
Powered Air Respirator has to use more power to generate a
sufficient air flow which influences the filter indicator reading.
STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION
The equipment must be stored in a dry, clean area, in the
temperature range of -20°C to +55°C
less than 90%
.
<90%
To protect the equipment from dust, particles and other
contamination, use 3M™ Adflo™ Storage Bag.
