HOW TO USE THE EMERGENCY STARTER
Using the Emergency Starter to start up vehicles
1. Always wear safety goggles and keep your face away from the battery when connecting it.
2. Check that the switch (5) is in the OFF position.
3. Check the voltage of the vehicle battery.
CAUTION: VOLTAGE INCOMPATIBILITY BETWEEN THE EMERGENCY STARTER AND THE
VOLTAGE OF THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CAN CAUSE EXPLOSIONS AND
DAMAGE THE VEHICLE, PRODUCT AND PEOPLE.
4. Identify the pole corresponding to the earth of the vehicle; this is generally connected to the
negative terminal.
5. CAUTION: never switch polarity. Always connect the output conductor with a red battery clip
(+)(1) to the positive pole of the battery and the output conductor with a black battery clip (-) (6)
to the vehicle's earth (ground). CAUTION: INVERTING POLARITY CAN CAUSE EXPLOSIONS,
DAMAGE THE VEHICLE, PRODUCT AND PEOPLE.
CAUTION: if the acoustic alarm is set on, the polarity has been reversed. Disconnect the
battery clips from the vehicle and connect them correctly.
CAUTION: check that the cables of the Emergency Starter are far away from fans, from moving parts
and from the fuel conduit.
6a. (12V model) Now place the ON/OFF switch (fig. 2) in the ON position and start up the vehicle.
6b. (12V-24V model) Now turn the 12/OFF/24 switch (fig. 3) to 12V or 24V, depending on the voltage
of the vehicle to be started up.
7. Once the vehicle has been started up, place the switch (5) in the OFF position.
8. Disconnect the output conductor with the black battery clip (6) from the earth of the vehicle and
replace output conductor with the black battery clip in its housing.
9. Disconnect the output conductor with the red battery clip (1) from the positive terminal (+) of the
battery and return it immediately to its seat.
CAUTION: if you are unable to start the vehicle within 10 seconds, do not continue with the starting
attempt. Before trying to start up the vehicle again, let the Emergency Starter rest for at least 3
minutes to avoid damaging the appliance.
CAUTION Always recharge the Emergency Starter after each time that it is used.
IMPORTANT Maintaining your vehicle's battery correctly prolongs its life. Once you reach your
destination, remember to connect your battery to a battery charger for vehicles to restore it to
maximum efficiency.
Using the Emergency Starter as a 12V memory saver
CAUTION For the 12V-24V models, position the 12V/OFF/24V switch in the 12V position
Before changing the vehicle's battery, plug an end of the cable with a plug for a cigar-lighter socket
(7) provided into the 12 VDC cigar-lighter socket (4) of the Emergency Starter and then plug the other
end of the cable with a plug for a cigar-lighter socket (7) into the 12 VDC cigar-lighter socket of the
vehicle. This simple procedure enables you to keep the memories of your vehicle active during
replacement of the battery so that the settings of your car accessories (car radio, alarm, control
panels ...) are not lost.
CAUTION Check that the cigar-lighter socket of the vehicle carries voltage when the vehicle is
switched off. (See the vehicle's use and maintenance manual). Check that the cigar-lighter socket of
the vehicle is clean.
CAUTION Always charge the Emergency Starter if it is used for a long period of time in this mode.
