Installing Rudder Angle Sensor
NOTICE! The control rod in this kit is designed for
sterndrive installations. In other installations, an alter-
native control rod 1 may have to be used.
1. Remove bolt holding grounding strap 3 on tiller
arm 4.
2. Reinstall grounding strap on tiller arm and secure
using ball stud B. Torque to 5–8 ft. lb. (7–11 Nm).
3. Install nuts (E & J) and ball sockets (G & H) on
control rod F. Note: The set for one side is left
hand thread.
4. If necessary, remove the existing lever 1 on the
sensor A. Install the new lever C with existing
screw 2.
5. Install the control rod between the ball joints on the
ball stud and the lever. Lock it in place using the
nuts.
NOTICE! Adjust the lever length so that the sensor
shows exactly full mechanical extension to star-
board and port when the rudder does the same.
6. Mark and drill holes for the sensor where it will be
placed.
NOTICE! Position the sensor so that the sensor
shows exactly full mechanical extension to both
starboard and port when the rudder does the same.
7. Install the sensor with washers K and screws I
without fully tightening the screws. The sensor
position can be adjusted when cables have been
connected to the sensor.
Wiring Cables
Wiring cables for installing the rudder angle sensor are
not provided in this kit. For EVC applications, you will
need to use the appropriate cable (PN 874807). For all
other applications, follow the instructions that came
with your rudder angle display gauge to determine the
type and size of wire to be used.
EVC Applications
1. Cut the spade terminals off the cable (PN 874807).
2. Install ring terminals 5 on the two exposed wires.
