Use
3.1
Intended use
The UV (ultraviolet) disinfection unit Bewades is used for the disinfection
of drinking water. The water to be treated with Bewades contains very
few germs and is free of pathogenic agents. In contrast to other dis-
infection methods, UV disinfection has no negative effects on the taste
and the smell of the treated water.
The main application of the unit is the disinfection of drinking and other
water in the private, municipal and industrial sector.
Caution: as laid down in AVB Wasser V, Section 12, the unit must
be installed in accordance with these Installation and Operating
Instructions by the water utility company or by an installation
company registered with the water utility company.
3.2
Foreseeable misuse
Operating the system with parameters other than those specified in this
documentation and in section 3.1.
Not adhering to the prescribed maintenance and service intervals.
Using spare parts and consumables not approved by BWT.
3.3
Disclaimer
The manufacturer is released from any liability if the customer intentio-
nally or forcibly removes guards or safety devices, if the customer wilfully
modifies or circumvents the same, or if the customer does not follow the
instructions in this operating manual or on the system.
3.4
Other applicable documentation
Observe all documents from suppliers that were included with delivery.
These are considered part of this documentation and must not be
changed or removed.

Function
The water to be treated flows from the bottom to the top through the
stainless steel irradiation chamber (1), passing the UV radiators. These
radiators generate UVC radiation with a wavelength of 254 nm, which
is particularly effective for steril iza tion. The UVC radiation reliably kills
all germs in the water.
In order to ensure uniform irradiation of the water, the irradiation chamber
is fitted with a turbulator.
The unit is controlled and monitored by a microprocessor-controlled
electronic control unit (4). For further details see the seperate Installation
and Operating Instructions for "UV Control II".
The UVC sensor (2) monitors the ageing of the radiator(s), the UVC
radiation intensity and the possible formation of deposits on the radiator
protection tube.
Note: the output power of UV radiators is temperature-dependent. For
this reason, minor variations of the indicated power as result of chan-
ging water temperatures or due to warming of the unit when no water
is flowing are normal.
