SCMS 254 PLUS
OPERATING THE UNIT
WARNING
For your own safety, keep the machine switch in off
position while performing any of the below adjust-
ing procedures. Machine should be turned on, only
if a specific step of the procedure states so and only
for that particular step.
Stopper arm adjustment
The lower limit position of the blade can be easily
adjusted with the stopper arm. To adjust it, move
the stopper arm in the direction of the arrow (Fig.
11A). Adjust the screw (Fig. 11B.3) so that the
blade stops at the desired position (Fig. 11C) when
fully lowering the handle.
Slide lock
To unlock the slide pole, turn the locking screw
(Fig. 12A) counter-clockwise. The cutting head
will be free to move back and forward (Fig. 12B).
To lock the slide pole, turn the locking screw (Fig.
12C) clockwise.
Miter angle adjustment
WARNING
When adjusting the miter angle, be sure to raise the
handle fully.
1. Unlock the miter angle adjustment by pulling
the side handle (Fig. 13A.2) to the horizontal
position.
2. Turn the turn table (Fig. 13B).
3. When you have moved the table to the position
where the pointer points to the desired angle
on the miter scale, secure the turn table by
pressing down the side handle back down to
lock position (Fig. 13C).
Bevel angle adjustment
WARNING
When adjusting the bevel angle, be sure to raise the
handle fully.
1. Loosen the lever (Fig. 14A) at the rear of the
tool counterclockwise.
2. Unlock the arm by pushing the handle in the
direction that you intend to tilt the saw blade.
3. Tilt the saw blade until the pointer points to
the desired angle on the bevel scale (Fig. 14B).
4. Tighten the lever (Fig. 14C) clockwise firmly to
secure the arm.
Guide fence
WARNING
Before operating the tool, make sure that the sliding
fence is secured firmly and that no part of the tool
contacts the sliding fence when fully lowering and
raising the handle in any position and while moving
the carriage through its full range of travel.
Laser operation
Turn on the laser switch (Fig. 15B) and check if the
laser line (Fig. 15C) is in the center of the base or
adjust accordingly as shown. To access the laser
adjustments remove the cover (Fig. 15A).
Press cut
To cut small work pieces:
1. Push the carriage toward the guide fence fully
and tighten the locking screw clockwise to se-
cure the carriage.
WARNING
Insufficient tightening of the knob may cause
possible kickback which may result in serious
personal injury.
2. Secure the work piece correctly with the prop-
er type of vise.
3. Switch on the tool without the blade making
any contact and wait until the blade reaches
full speed before lowering.
4. Gently lower the handle to the fully lowered
position to cut the work piece.
5. When the cut is completed, switch off the tool
and wait until the blade has come to a complete
stop before returning the blade to its fully ele-
vated position.
Slide cut
To cut wide work pieces:
1. Loosen the locking screw counterclockwise so
that the carriage can slide freely.
2. Secure the work piece with the proper type of
vise.
3. Pull the carriage fully towards you.
4. Switch on the tool without the blade making
any contact and wait until the blade reaches
full speed before lowering.
5. Press the handle down and push the carriage
towards the guide fence and through the work
piece.
WARNING
Do not start the cut with the carriage not pulled
fully towards you, as unexpected kickback may
occur resulting in serious personal injury. Never
attempt to perform a slide cut by pulling the car-
riage towards you, as this may cause unexpected
kickback resulting in serious personal injury.
6. When the cut is completed, switch off the tool
and wait until the blade has come to a complete
stop before returning the blade to its fully ele-
vated position.
WARNING
Never perform the slide cut with the handle locked
in the lowered position and never loosen the locking
screw which secures the carriage while the blade is
rotating. A loose carriage while cutting may cause
unexpected kickback resulting in possible in serious
personal injury.
Miter cut
Refer to the "Miter angle adjustment" section for
instructions on how to setup the cut.
Bevel cut
Refer to the "Bevel angle adjustment" section for
instructions on how to setup the cut.
WARNING
After setting the blade for a bevel cut, before oper-
ating the tool ensure that the carriage and blade will
have free travel throughout the entire range of the
intended cut. Interruption of the carriage or blade
