1 Introduction

This manual contains information about the
operation, calibration and installation of the
VETUS wind speed / wind direction indicator
'WSD834'.
The following information can be read from
the wind speed / wind direction indicator
'WSD834':
• Apparent (APP) wind speed
• True (TRUE) wind speed *)
• Maximum (MAX) wind speed
• Apparent (APP) wind direction
• True (TRUE) wind direction *)
• VMG ('Velocity Made Good'): that propor-
tion of the sailing speed which is parallel
with the true wind *)
*) Is only displayed correctly if the ship's
speed is known and the instrument receives
a signal giving the speed.
A wind speed alarm can also be set.
