Periodically grease the carriage guide.

If the handle sticks, insert a few drops of machine oil into the
hole at the top of the housing.
Remove the carriage.
Turn the carriage over.
Grease the carriage guide with a bit of acid-free sewing
machine oil.
Replace the carriage.
