e) mode 5

Trickle charging

Mode 5 (Figure 1, Pos. 5: 13.6 v / Supply) is a charging programme in which the charging output is limited to a volt-
age of 13.6 v. With this programme, 12 v batteries can remain connected permanently without being overcharged.
Depending on the charge state, the charging current adjusts automatically. Mode 5 is suitable for battery capacities
between 14 Ah and 230 Ah of the type's lead-gel, lead-acid or lead-fleece.
If Mode 5 is selected and activated with a battery connected, the LED "13.6 v / Supply" flashes in a slow
rhythm of 1 second on/off.
Power supply
In addition, the charger can serve as a power supply for 12 v devices. The voltage at the charging output is 13.6 v.
The charger supplies a maximum current of 5 A.
Mode 5 is activated as power supply if, when a battery is not connected, the "Mode" button (Figure 2, Pos. 4) is
pressed for approx. three seconds. If the charger is activated as a voltage source, the LEDs "13.6 v / Supply"
(Figure 1, Pos. 5) and "Supply" (Figure 1, Pos. 7) light up.
If Mode 5 is activated when a battery is not connected, voltage is immediately applied at the charging
output. In this mode, the "anti-spark protection" (see chapter "Safety devices") is deactivated. When you
connect a 12 v consumer, sparks may be caused by charge equalisation.
When connecting 12 v consumers, pay attention to the correct polarity.
If the power demand of the connected device is even briefly higher than 5 A, the device automatically
shuts off the voltage and goes into standby mode (only the LED shown in Fig. 2, Pos. 1 remains lit).
f) mode 6
Mode 6 (Fig. 1, Pos. 6: 16 v / Boost) is a special programme for the reactivation of deep-discharged 12 v batteries.
The charge output is limited to a voltage maximum of 16.5 v, the charge current to 1.5 A. Depending on the charge
state of the battery, the reactivation of the battery lasts up to three hours. The LED "16 v / Boost" blinks in slow
rhythm of 1 sec on/off. If the battery voltage is less than or equal to 4.5 v (deep-discharged battery), the programme
does not start. In this case the "16 v / Boost" goes out and the LED "Power" lights up (Fig. 2, Item 1).
When the activation programme is finished, the LED flashes on "16 v / Boost" in a rhythm of 0.5 seconds on / 1
second off. Now you can recharge the battery completely by switching to mode 3 or 4 (press "Mode" - see Fig. 2
Pos. 4). Mode 6 is suitable for battery capacities between 14 Ah and 230 Ah of the lead-gel, lead-acid or lead-fleece
types.
In Charging Mode 6, the battery must not be connected to a vehicle electrical system during the charging
process under any circumstances. Before you use this charging programme, the battery to be charged
must first be disconnected from the vehicle electrical system. Otherwise there is the risk of the vehicle
electrical system being damaged.
If the charger cannot successfully finish the reactivation program even after four hours, the electronics
switches on a trickle charging of 200 Ma charging current. You can read the status of the battery charge
from LED's 5 to 8 (see Figure 2).
When using Charging Programme Mode 6 with batteries with liquid electrolyte, check the state of the
electrolyte after the charging, since the high charging voltage in this charging programme can lead to
degassing and thus liquid loss.
