7. Maintenance / repairs
Care and maintenance of the ladder should ensure its
proper functioning. The ladder must be checked regular-
ly for damage. The functioning of moving parts must be
ensured. Any repairs to the ladder must be performed by
a qualified person. The ladder, in particular all moving
parts, should be cleaned immediately after use if visibly
soiled. Only use commercially available and water-so-
luble cleaning products. Do not use aggressive, abrasive
detergents. For commercial use, the ladder must be che-
cked regularly for proper condition by a qualified person
(visual inspection and functional check). The intervals for
checking the ladder depend on the operating conditions,
in particular the frequency of use, the loads during use, as
well as the frequency and severity of any defects detected
during previous checks. The employer must also ensure
that damaged ladders are withdrawn from use and stored
in such a way that further use is not possible prior to pro-
fessional repair or disposal. When repairing or replacing
parts, such as rubber feet, the manufacturer or dealer
must be contacted, if necessary.
8. Storage / service life
For transport and storage, the ladder must be prepared
and, if necessary, packaged as specified. In order to avoid
any damage, the ladder must be securely fastened with
lashing straps etc. during transport. The ladder should be
stored in a dry place, either fully upright or lying flat. Any
damage must be excluded and all parts must be protected
against unfavourable weather conditions. Store the lad-
der in such a way that it is protected from children playing
and that it is not an obstacle to anyone (possible tripping
hazard). Used according to its intended purpose and main-
tained at regular intervals, the ladder is a piece of work
equipment for long-term use.

9. Use as stepladder
Do not move sideways off the ladder to another surface
Before use, make sure both ladder parts are completely
open and secure
Only use the ladder with engaged spreader lock
Without a platform and holding device, do not use the top
two rungs of a stepladder as a standing surface
Stepladders must not be used as simple ladders unless
they have been designed for that purpose
Horizontal surfaces resembling the platform of a steplad-
der that are, however, not designed for that purpose (e.g.
plastic work tray) must be clearly marked on the surface.
(If necessary for design reasons)
