Safety Information

(Part of the Operating Instructions Safety Switch) CTP-AP-...-EX
Scope
This safety information is part of the operating
instructions for safety switch CTP of the output
family -AP.
Correct use
The aforementioned safety switches are interlocking
devices with guard locking (type  4). Devices with
unicode evaluation possess a high coding level,
devices with multicode evaluation possess a low
coding level.
For guard locking for personnel protection the
following applies:
In combination with a movable safety guard and the
machine control, this safety component prevents the
safety guard from being opened while a dangerous
machine function is being performed.
This means:
Starting commands that cause a dangerous ma-
f
chine function must become active only when the
safety guard is closed and locked.
The guard locking device must not be unlocked
f
until the dangerous machine function has ended.
Closing and locking a safety guard must not cause
f
automatic starting of a dangerous machine func-
tion. A separate start command must be issued.
For exceptions, refer to EN ISO 12100 or relevant
C-standards.
For guard locking for process protection the
following applies:
In combination with a movable safety guard and
the machine control, this safety component pre-
vents dangerous machine functions from occurring
while the safety guard is open. A stop command is
triggered if the safety guard is opened during the
dangerous machine function. With inactive guard
lock monitoring, guard locking must be used only
for process protection.
This means:
Starting commands that cause a dangerous ma-
f
chine function must become active only when the
safety guard is closed.
Opening the safety guard triggers a stop com-
f
mand.
Closing a safety guard must not cause automatic
f
starting of a dangerous machine function. A
separate start command must be issued. For
exceptions, refer to EN  ISO  12100 or relevant
C-standards.
Before the device is used, a risk assessment must
be performed on the machine, e.g. in accordance
with the following standards:
EN ISO 13849-1, Safety of machinery – Safety-re-
f
lated parts of control systems – Part 1: General
principles for design
EN  ISO  12100, Safety of machinery – General
f
principles for design – Risk assessment and risk
reduction
IEC  62061, Safety of machinery – Functional
f
safety of safety-related electrical, electronic and
programmable electronic control systems
EN  1127-1, Explosive atmospheres – Explosion
f
prevention and protection – Part 1: Basic concepts
and methodology
Correct use includes observing the relevant require-
ments for installation and operation, particularly
based on the following standards:
EN ISO 13849-1, Safety of machinery – Safety-re-
f
lated parts of control systems – Part 1: General
principles for design
EN ISO 14119 (supersedes EN 1088), Safety of
f
machinery – Interlocking devices associated with
guards – Principles for design and selection
EN  60204-1, Safety of machinery – Electrical
f
equipment of machines – Part 1: General re-
quirements
EN  60079-0, Explosive atmospheres – Part 0:
f
Equipment – General requirements
EN 60079-11, Explosive atmospheres – Part 11:
f
Equipment protection by intrinsic safety "i"
EN 60079-14, Explosive atmospheres – Part
f
14: Electrical installations design, selection and
erection
EN 60079-15, Explosive atmospheres – Part 15:
f
Equipment protection by type of protection "n"
EN 60079-31, Explosive atmospheres – Part 31:
f
Equipment dust ignition protection by enclosure "t"
Important!
Correct use requires observing the permissible
f
operating parameters (see technical data).
The user is responsible for the proper integration
f
of the device into a safe overall system. For this
purpose, the overall system must be validated,
e.g. in accordance with EN ISO 13849-2.
Exclusion of liability and warranty
In case of failure to comply with the conditions for
correct use stated above, or if the safety instruc-
tions are not followed, or if any servicing is not
performed as required, liability will be excluded and
the warranty void.
General safety instructions
Safety switches fulfill personal protection functions.
Incorrect installation or tampering can lead to fatal
injuries to personnel.
Check the safe function of the safety guard par-
ticularly
after any setup work
f
after the replacement of a system component
f
after an extended period without use
f
after every fault
f
Independent of these checks, the safe function of the
safety guard should be checked at suitable intervals
as part of the maintenance schedule.
WARNING
Danger to life due to improper installation or due
to bypassing (tampering). Safety components
perform a personal protection function.
Safety components must not be bypassed,
f
turned away, removed or otherwise rendered
ineffective. On this topic pay attention in partic-
ular to the measures for reducing the possibility
of bypassing according to EN ISO 14119:2013,
section 7.
The switching operation must be triggered only
f
by actuators designated for this purpose.
Prevent bypassing by means of replacement
f
actuators (only for multicode evaluation). For this
purpose, restrict access to actuators and to keys
for releases, for example.
Mounting, electrical connection and setup only
f
by authorized personnel possessing the following
knowledge:
- specialist knowledge in handling safety com-
ponents
- knowledge about the applicable EMC regu-
lations
- knowledge about the applicable regulations on
occupational safety and accident prevention.
Important!
Prior to use, read the operating instructions and
keep these in a safe place. Ensure the operating
instructions are always available during mounting,
setup and servicing. EUCHNER cannot provide any
warranty in relation to the readability of the CD for
the storage period required.
For this reason you should archive a printed copy
of the operating instructions. You can download
the operating instructions from www.euchner.com.

Explosion protection safety concept
Important!
In order to achieve the explosion protection stated,
all the conditions in the operating instructions must
be met. HIGH RISK product.
II3G Ex nA IIB T4 Gc X
II3D Ex tc IIIC T110°C Dc X
X = To prevent electrostatic charging, do not sub-
ject the switch to any processes that generate
a large amount of charge. All the electrical
connections must either be isolated from the
mains supply by a safety transformer according
to IEC 61558-2-6 with limited output voltage
in the event of a fault, or by other equivalent
isolation measures (PELV).
Safety switches with ATEX identification mark-
ing from EUCHNER are not safety devices as
defined by the ATEX Directive.
The following components must be grounded:
Switch/protective plate
f
Actuator
f
Lockout mechanism
f
Actuators with rubber bushes must not be used.
Permanently and inseparably connect the actuator
using the supplied non-removable screws.
It is essential to mount the protective plate (con-
ductive ESD protective paint) as shock protection.
Within the stipulated operating temperature it is
not to be expected that the potentially explosive
atmosphere will be drawn into the housing.
To prevent electrostatic charging, do not subject
the switch to any processes that generate a large
amount of charge.
All exposed ground connections must have a con-
ductor cross-section of at least 4 mm².
The connection cable must be laid such that it is
protected against mechanical damage.
On use in potentially explosive atmospheres, there
is a danger of explosion due to electrical sparks.
Never connect or disconnect connector when live.
f
Do not operate the switch in an atmosphere contain-
ing combustible gases, such as:
Carbon disulfide
f
Carbon monoxide
f
Ethylene oxide
f
Protection of the switch and actuator against ma-
terial deposits.
Safety switches and actuators must not be used
as an end stop.
Protection against mechanical effects on the switch:
In order to achieve the indicated explosion category,
it is essential to mount the provided protective plate
(ESD protective paint).
Mount the switch so that the rear side is completely
covered (no shock protection).
An energy of 500 J must not be exceeded during
insertion of the actuator. Observe the max. approach
speed (see technical data) and the mass of the
safety guard.
If damage or wear is found, the complete switch and
actuator assembly must be replaced. Replacement
of individual parts or assemblies is not permitted.
Do not open, service or repair in an area in which a
potentially explosive atmosphere may be present.
Operating instructions on CD/DVD
Each device is supplied with operating instructions
on CD/DVD, which contain detailed information on
the overall system. The following system require-
ments must be met to be able to display or print
the document:
PC with PDF reader installed
f
CD/DVD drive
