Setting the temperature
Always check first to see whether an item of clothing carries a care label giving ironing
instructions. Ironing instructions are shown by a printed iron symbol on the care label. If
the item of clothing does not have a care label attached, but you know what type of
material is involved, please follow the table given below.
The table refers to the fabric in the material, not to its surface finish (e.g. silky etc.).
Textiles with a special finish (shiny surface, pleats, texturing etc.) should be ironed at a
low temperature. If a fabric is made up of a mixture of materials, always set the iron to
suit the material with the lowest ironing temperature (e.g. an item of clothing with 60%
polyester and 40% linen should be ironed at the temperature recommended for
polyester, and without any steam).
Sort the materials according to ironing temperatures: wool with wool, cotton with cotton,
etc.
The iron heats up faster than it cools down. Because of this, you should iron the
materials with the lowest ironing temperatures first, and then iron those items with
higher ironing temperatures.
Adjust the temperature regulator (2) to the setting for the temperature required in each
case.
