3.3
Inadvisable uses: ATTENTION
The standard product is not suitable for:
- dry operation;
- pumping liquids differing from clear, chemically and mechanically non-aggressive water;
- pumping water with a solids concentration and with a silt granulometry and hardness exceeding 20 g/m
are used, and 0 g/m
for the mechanical seal version;
3
- pumping water with a temperature exceeding 90 °C (194 °F);
- pumping inflammable liquids;
- operation in places with a classified risk of explosion unless appropriately equipped with explosion-proof motors and control
circuits;
-
a closed working for a long time: see tab. 10 technical data;
- operation with frequent stops and starts if an electric motor is installed (consult the "Motor table" in chapter 10 "Technical data");
- operation at altimetric levels exceeding 1000 m (may vary depending on the utilized motor);
- operation at ambient temperatures exceeding 40 °C (may vary depending on the utilized motor);
- operation beyond the flow rate range; a minimum capacity can be supported equal to 15% of the nominal one, only for short periods' time or
during a functioning one;
- a suction pressure less than the required NPSH (consult the technical or commercial documentation of Caprari S.p.A.);
- a delivery pressure exceeding 40 bar for series PM pumps and exceeding 64 bar for series PMS pumps;
- a rotation speed exceeding the limits given in the table (consult the "Operating limits" table in chapter 10 "Technical data");
- excessive speed changes during operation caused, for example, by an internal combustion engine operating at a low power output;
- abnormal operating conditions for the internal combustion engine drive (consult the specific use and maintenance manual with which the motor
must be equipped).
Make the simple calculation illustrated below to be sure that the sealing system on the spinning shaft has been selected correctly.
Multiply the pressure on the intake in [bars] by 2,4, add this to the pressure created by the pump in [bars]:
- if the value obtained is less than 75,3 both the standard packing gland and the mechanical seal can be used;
- if the value obtained is less than 100 both only the mechanical seal;
- if the value obtained is higher than 100, contact our offices.
Consult the technical or commercial documentation of Caprari S.p.A. and/or the data on the order confirmation for the limits to the use of special
versions.
Also make sure that the product conforms to any pertinent local laws.

STORAGE AND HANDLING
Store the pump in a dry and dust-free place.
Avoid instability which could be caused by wrongly positioning the product.
Turn the rotating parts at regular intervals to prevent them from seizing (consult paragraph 5.1 "Preliminary inspections" for the relative proce-
dure).
ATTENTION
For safe storage after a previous installation, the pump must be thoroughly cleaned (never use hydrocarbon based products for
this purpose) and entirely emptied. This is done by removing the plugs from the lower part of the casings and shells (when
installed) or by setting the pump in a vertical position with the suction port pointing upwards.
The product should be handled with care and circumspection, using suitable lifting and harnessing means in compliance with the
safety provisions in force.
In particular:
- use the delivery port as lifting point when handling the pump and, when positioning, the suction port or shaft support if necessary;
- use the relative connecting points when handling the electric motor;
- refer to the instructions of the specific use and maintenance manual when handling the internal combustion engine;
- never use the lifting points with which the electric motor is equipped when handling the complete unit. Harness this latter by passing a sling
under the base frame and make sure that the load is stable when lifted.
The weight of each individual component is given in chapter 10 "Technical data".
ATTENTION
Make sure that the unit is never exposed to adverse weather conditions able to cause damage.
5
ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION
Dispose of the packing material as established by the local laws in force. Do not litter.

ATTENTION
Always make sure that the pump is free to turn by means of the extended shaft, taking care to prevent this from being damaged.
To release the rotor, Caprari can supply a specific tool that facilitates this operation when applied to the side opposite the
shaft projection.
