5.4. COMMISSIONING

Firstly, the water circulation pump must be started. Wait several minutes to check that the
circulation flow has settled and there are no variations in flow. Check that air bubbles have
made their way to the bleed points and have been removed.
Check that the pressure levels in the installation do not exceed those permitted for heat
exchanger banks.
Keep the circulation pump operating for at least 2 hours. Turn off the pump and proceed
to remove the installation's filter. For this purpose close the shut-off valves as needed to
prevent the system draining and to limit ingress of air. Proceed to clean the filter.
Carefully inspect the particles trapped by the filter, checking that the source of those
particles will not clog the filter anew (as is the case with metal pipe scale, calcareous
deposits, etc.).
Replace the filter, bleed the installation anew and restart the circulation pump. Again wait
several minutes to check that the circulation flow has settled and there are no variations
in flow. Should there not be a good circulation of water, repeat the operations described
above.

6. PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

At the start of each season (summer and winter) check that the fins on the tube banks are not
clogged with dust, fluff or other foreign bodies which might impede the circulation of air and
impair the performance of the tube bank.
Carefully clean the tube bank with compressed air or even in equipment with a condensate
collection tray with pressurised water and non-abrasive detergents, so as not to damage the
fins.
Brush the fins as necessary.
Check that there are no leaks of the primary fluid (water or steam) through the elbow sections
or manifolds.
If the equipment is to be left unused for a long period, the installation should be drained of
water (avoiding frozen pipes during the winter).
On a monthly basis, inspect the condensate collection tray to check it is clean and that no
stagnant water is present.
Inspect the siphon, checking that there are no obstacles to the free circulation of condensate
water.
