2.4 Advice and safety

The majority of problems with induction loops happen when the installation has not been
properly planned so take time before starting the installation.
Ideally, the loop driver should be placed near the area to be covered. This may involve
placing the loop driver on a panel, under a desk or under a counter.
To ideally position the loop in the area to be equipped, it is important to take the users of
the system into account.
For example, if you only need to have the speaker and the client, a reduced coverage with
a centered loop may be a better solution than a loop around the perimeter of the room. It
will limit radiation and increase confidentiality.
To prevent accidents or personal injury caused by electrical shocks, never place any
type of container filled with a liquid, such as a vase, on the device.
Never pull on the power cord to remove the plug from the wall outlet; always pull the
plug.
Do not operate the device near heat sources or in rooms with high humidity.
(Operating temperature range 0-45°C).
Do not cover the air vents so that any heat generated by the device can be dissipated
by air circulation.
Depending on the stress it is exposed to, the device can develop high temperatures
in the heat sink and at the air vents. Be careful not to touch these elements - risk of
burns!
Disconnect the mains plug from the socket in order to switch off the appliance completely,
as standby operation and thus low energy consumption takes place when the appliance
is switched off via the power switch.
An installation must be carried out by qualified personnel.
The device must be out of reach of unauthorized persons.
The device may only be operated by persons with appropriate knowledge.
The device is only to be used for operating inductive loop systems!
To prevent potential injury, do not position this device higher than 2 metres from a
horizontal surface.
Connect the loop driver only to wiring which complies to IEC 60364.

3. Function principle

An induction loop system is installed mainly in a room. The installation consists of an elec-
trical wire which is laid around or within the room, forming one ore more loops. Both wire
ends are connected to the loop driver.
Hearing aids are often equipped with a coil, often called »T Position« or »T-coil«. This
coil, placed inside the prosthesis, is capable of reacting to the magnetic field generated
by the loop wire of the room. By induction, the electrical signal present in the loop will be
