Xenoguard
Pericardium membrane for soft tissue reconstruction
- Soaking fluid: sterile saline solution,
sterile Ringer's solution or sterile Ringer's
lactate (room temperature)
- A sterile bowl for each piece of the
surgical matrix Xenoguard
Preparation
- Open the box and remove the double
sterile packaging.
- Open the outer portion of the sterile
packaging and remove the inner portion
of the sterile packaging, following the
asepsis rules. The inner sterile packaging
is sterile and can be introduced directly
into the sterile operating area.
- Carefully open the inner foil bag and
remove the surgical membrane, following
the asepsis rules. Always use sterile
gloves or forceps when handling the
membrane.
- Place Xenoguard into a sterile bowl
filled with sterile saline solution, sterile
Ringer's lactate or sterile Ringer's solution
(room temperature) for a minimum of 5
minutes. Once fully rehydrated,
Xenoguard will have a glazed
appearance.
- Keep Xenoguard in the sterile solution
(at room temperature) until ready to use.
The acellular matrix can remain in the
sterile solution for a maximum of 4 hours.
Implantation
- Prepare the implantation site using the
standard techniques.
- Xenoguard can be folded and cut to
size following the asepsis rules, whereby
overlapping must be ensured.
- Insert Xenoguard into the implantation
site using sterile gloves or sterile forceps.
- Suture the inserted membrane.
- Complete the standard surgical
protocol.
- Dispose of any unused Xenoguard
membrane parts following the applicable
procedures of the facility and the
applicable environmental legislation.
Note: The tension and arrangement of
the sutures depend on the application.
When repairing gaps, surgical experience
with soft tissue implants has shown that
suturing the surgical matrix Xenoguard
under tension while overlapping the
healthy adjacent tissue by a minimum of
2-3 cm will provide better results.
