Definition of R134a refrigerant gas charge, according to length of pipes in the facility
Taking an initial charge of 680 g of R-134a as the reference, the amount of refrigerant to be added per length
of pipe is:
• 65 g of R134a refrigerant per metre of 3/8" pipe installed (high pressure in liquid state).
• 5 g of R134a refrigerant per metre of 5/8" or 3/4" pipe installed (low pressure in gas state).
Examples:
In a facility consisting of a 4-metre 3/8" pipe and a 4-metre 5/8" pipe, the ideal charge is:
Initial charge 680 g + 4 m of 3/8" pipe (4 x 65 = 260 g) + 4 m of 5/8" pipe (4 x 5 = 20 g),
In a facility consisting of an 8-metre 3/8" pipe and an 8-metre 3/4" pipe, the ideal charge is:
Initial charge 680 g + 8 m of 3/8" pipe (8 x 65 = 520 g) + 8 m of 3/4" pipe (8 x 5 = 40 g),
